    1. Guy,

You had quite a nice close-up of this one. Could you please post it?

I visited the museum together with Guy and some other medal nut cases last year during the international meeting of phaleristic societies. We had quite a nice strawl through the museum. The only problem was that it was forbidden to take photographs inside, so we had to guard Guy off from the guards while he was taking pictures. How did you manage to get those pics Ed?

I was allowed to take pictures (I payed for it at the enterance) but the problem whas that I toke the pictures by putting my lens ont the glass of the showcases  , so I could take the pictures without flashlight to have no reflection, and that the guards didn't like. :speechless:

So we played a little cat and mouse :Cat-Scratch::D

    2. Hi Guy,

At the moment I do own an Grand Cross of the order of the crown,

      Sadly without the sash....

Do you have one for me???

Otherwise I'm thinking about parting with it..... Would be sad, but my major interest is with the order of Leopold II of which I'm the lucky owner to have obtained a Commander Leopold II recently :)

Could you give me your guess-valuation on an old Grand Cross Badge of the order of the Crown Belgium with and without sash??

I dont have a grandcross of the crown and a sash alone. And by the way I dont sel things :shame:

The value of the cross depends ot the manufacturing, silver gilded, Brons Gilded, the manufacture etc...

I never gif estimations, for that you have to folow the law of asking and demand, look at auctions and compare the selling prices, good Luck :P

    3. What Belgian decorations belong, the dutch speaking part of Belgium has the same problem, most of the information about Belgian OMD is in French. so if we want to know the information whe have to learn French :speechless:

And information abouth the french OMD they are in French, it is the same for the English OMD, they are in English.:lol::rolleyes:

The order of the French Liberation is translated in Englisch see http://ordredelaliberation.fr

    4. He also wears the unofficial Cross of Merit of the Royal Netherlands Reserve Officer's Association (the red/blue striped silver cross / looks like the Cross of the Two Day Military Proficiency Course (TMPT)).

But then again, that you can do when you're the Inspector-General of the Armed Forces. Who is to correct you anyways?

The boss is always wright even when his is wrong ;)

He will probebly find it a probleme to change his beautifull medal bar, so the numbre of medals will go down.

Som soldiers who are doing a lot of missions of peace keeping have some time more decorations than the generals. :P

BTW, Erik do we see you end of the month in Brussels ?

    6. In the photoalbum of this website:

      http://www.leudalmonument.nl/ > Welkom > Fotoboek > photo top right

Is a Dutch general wearing a French Nek order. Any idea what it is?

Commanders Cross Ordre National du M?rite (France), and he is olso wearing still his officers cross in the same order :shame:

normaly you only whear the highst rank of the order. :speechless:

    7. I heard that the Grandcrosses of the National orders of Leopold II and the order of the Crown were equal in size to the commanders-cross...

However the Grandcross of the order of Leopold I would be slight larger than its commanders-cross.

That is correct the ? of the grandsash of the order of leopold = normaly 70 mm

the one of the commanderscross = normaly 60 mm

but  at this moment the manufactures put commandercrosses on the grandsash, the crosses of 60 mm  in stad of those of 70 mm

the grandcrosses ont he order of the african Star, Royal order of the Lion, Crownorder and Order of Leopold II has the same juwel as the commanderscross on the sash, and this is correct :D

    8. really interesting how the time change the look of the decorations!

but i have a questions on the grouping of mr. kersten herman - in germany you can find on the graveyards or near the church a big plaquete which shows the name of the fallen soldiers of the first and later of the second worldwar. is it the same in belgium? and if so, what they made in his hometown?

(i know, a little strange question - but it would be really interesting how they handled it!)

      christian

In front of the church is a monument with his name and the name of an other grand uncle kild as solder in 1940. and 3 other persons who where killed as resistance man.

In the church is a commemoration plate with the Buste of Kersten Herman, Placed by the famely.

see here his gravestone in Adinkerke, near La Panne and a detail of his OMD on the graveplate

    9. I understood  -- medal OR cross was worn -- up to the wearer's preference? Or did those who had not applied for the medal in time only able to get the cross from the 1930s on?

It seems odd to have changed a design for such a minor point-- and actually, the "cross" version is just... odd looking.

The medal was given to the recipients, the cross they had to buy it them self, that is why the cross is more difficult to find than the medal

Here the group of medals of my grand Unckle who was killed near Diksmuide (Yser) in february 1916, he was the first time wounded in october 1914 by the battle of the yser.
