    1. Well, the society is still (mostly) alive, so I guess the only question is in what era the badges are made? Whether in the 1780s or the 2000s, a legitimate badge is a legitimate badge. Each state has its own design traditions, so, to the initiated, you can tell the difference. Although I am technically elegible I am not a member, as someone beat me to my ancestor!

      Dear Ed

Yesterday I got a book about the Insigna, for one of the French members of the Society.

"The Insignia of the Society of the Cincinnati" written by Minnor Myers, Jr., Washington D.C., 1998.

The first part gives a history of the society and the Insigna

The second part gives a catalog of Varieties about 80 diverent fabrications, diveded in

      -Eighteen century French Eagles

      -Early American Eagles

      -Later French Types

      -Later American Types

      Later American Types

The Insignia of the Society of the Cincinnati" written by Minnor Myers, Jr., Washington D.C., 1998.

      I Have the book "

I olso fond some information on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_the_Cincinnati

So I like to see more from this beautifull Insigna, I saw some in the new exhebition of the Mus?e de la L?gion d'honneur in Paris.

    3. There is no lanyard for the order of the Royal Lion, Crown order and the order of Leopold II

The Lanyard of the Order of the African Star was for the collonial troops. The Belgian Soldiers who got the Commomeration Medal of the colonial war 1914-1917 where allowed to whear this Lanyard.

So the posibility exist that some belgian military who had been in the colonie ant the yser front got the Lanyard of the order of Leopold our War cross and the one of the African Star.

The combination of two lanyard is probably a fantasy, i ddin't find some information about it.

    4. I think it can be the next person

    5. Not yet, as soon as it's published I guess Guy will post something on it! (@ Guy?)

It will be there hopely end of this year, the Royal Army Museum will do an exhibition about the Belgian National Orders and specialy about the 175 aniversery of the Order of Leopold. By that occasion normaly the book of our dear Pat will be Publiched, but first there will be a remake of the book of Ren? Cornet, about the l?gislation of the belgian orders, adapted by Pat, with beautifull pictures made by BC. So some day it will be there

But my book about the french Imperial orders would be first (no more command on that, ... only that it will be beautifull) ;)

    6. The Order of the Dutch Lion was cald in dutch "Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw" in the south part of the kingdom of the Netherlands (1815-1830) (Now Belgium) was it cald "Ordre du Lion de Belgique" by the French speaking part. So you can have confussion. But the orders has been created as an Order of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1815 as a knight order for civilian Merit, earlier that year King Willem I created the "Militaire Willems Orde" (MWO) who was an order for Military merit.

After the independance of the sout part of the kingdom in 1830 (Belgium) The kingdom of the Netherlands (the North part) will hold his order system of the 2 orders created by king Willem I, who stayed as king of the Kingdom of the Netherlands after 1830.

See her a beautifull drawing of the order of the Belgian Lion  out the book of A. Wahlen from 1844.

    7. Nice discution

The link from the envelope is the ribbon that belonged to king Albert I Of Belgium, who recieved the Order of the crown from the Chah of Persia in 1926 by the state visite of the Chah of Persia to Belgium

      http://www.klm-mra.be/klm-new/engels/colle...e_de_perse.html

here the link with the other envelopes

      http://www.klm-mra.be/klm-new/engels/colle...bert/index.html

I think the link to the french non-official order is the correct one for the ribbon from the first post. This order exist olso in different classes knight, officer, compmander, etc...

    8. Guy,

You are correct. Is there any evidence about the fact that NIII got this medal ? Any reason why showing the reverse of both medals ?

      Cheers.

      Ch.
