And my 1957 1st Class Cross ( which i still need to get the ribbon for ) :
Personally i think this is one award that has improved with de nazification , i thought the original eagles on the olympic crosses were awful !

Hello Bob ,
So only the Navy dagger is a legitimate post war dagger ?
I definaltey saw the luftwaffe and Army dagger,s that Detlev described as " 1957 " ones . the Army and Luftwaffe dagger were plain on the cross guard where the eagles should have been . So are these just monkeyed with fake daggers !
Regarding this reunification dagger is it the same as the one shown above ?
Thanks for the input !
Cheers

Hello All,
Regarding the late war land units made up of Navy men , i know they could have been eligible for the tank destruction strip but could they also qualify for the Inf assault , gen assault and CCC ?
Thanks

1957 awards are my sole collecting interest now and i,ve been getting the odd one now for 5 years i try to get the nice early pieces but if i see a mid quality piece at a good price i get it .
I agree there are a lot of the crappy late made collectors copies about at the moment which are truly horrible but if you dig around you can get some real gems .
A lot of the early ones were made using wartime parts and have beautiful frosting and burnishing every bit as good as their WW2 brothers , plus they are cheaper and the early ones are a lot rarer and drying up as interest in these awards grows .
I particularly like the unique ribbon bars made for the badges , shields and armbands with the blue grey backing .
This was the only way a vet of WW2 could wear his awards with pride after the war using these de-nazified awards .
I tried without sucess to get a forum going on another site as they thought there wasn't enough interest .
I have a modest collection of these and if anyone wants to see what a particular award looks like i,ll happily post a pic of one here ( if i have it of course ! ) .
The imperial 1957 EK,s can be found but they are not that common , you can also get other imperial and freikorps awards made at the same time as the 1957 awards mainly from S & L .

Hi
I saw that Detlev had what he called 1957 daggers for sale a month or two ago , they were post war made and basically looked the same as the WW2 daggers for the Army , Navy and Airforce except de-nazified .
Does anyone have one of these they can show a picture of or can anyone add anything to this ?
Cheers

Hello All ,
I,m trying to get to the bottom of why some 1957 RK,s , Oaks/Swords are marked 925 English Sterling .
I have read they were made in England in the 1990,s .
I have also been told that they were made under contract for S & L and then sold as collectors copies .
Can anyone add anything to this ?

Hi All ,
I,ve recently got the photo,s of my Grandad off my mother , i want to put them in a frame with his cap badge and medals ( which the family can't find but my uncle told me there were 3 ) and i have bought a selecion of war medals to mount up with his picture and cap badge . I have a picture which i will try and post here and it shows a ribbon bar , i,m fairly sure the first 2 are the 39-45 star and Burma star but i,m not sure on the last one i think it is the defence but i,m not sure .
He was a policeman in luton when the war broke out and joined the military police and spent most of the war in Rangoon , Burma . Any help would be great !
Cheers

Hello ,
I,ve often wondered why they don't scrap it especially as the German Economy is currently going up the wall !
Mind you it keeps their unemployment figures from looking too bad !

British wear of foreign awards ?
in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
Posted
Hi ,
I just wanted to know what the regulations are on the wear of foreign awards alongside British on their medal bars ( current not WW2,1 ) . I know a mate who served in the first Gulf war was told he couldn't wear the kuwait and saudi awards he was given but i,m sure i,ve seen a soldier wearing an American bronze star alongside his British gongs ?
Cheers
