    1. Hi everyone,

As some of you might know , im currently researching & making a website about the Monsun U-Boats (german submarines) that went to south east asia during WW2. Well, after the war, quite a high number of them were interned by the British in the infamous Changi Prison. Please see here http://www.changimuseum.com/

I made a recent visit to the museum there , and met the current manager of the place, Mr Simon Goh. He was very interested in my research and was quite surprised to know that the prison was also used to house German inmates. Believe me, in our history textbooks , when u read about singapore during WW2, you'll read about the Japanese but absolutely nothing about the German submarine operations that were conducted here banghead.gif

Anyway, he told me he would really appreciate it if i could provide him with more pictures of the uboat men who were interned there. I showed him 3 pictures taken from the book "Shooting the War, The Memoir and Photographs of a U-Boat Officer in World War II, by Otto Giese and James E. Wise. Jr". Please see below.

If any of you have pictures similar to the ones below, please do contact me. help.gif

      Thank You.

    2. NOT one of the many examples of guys with flying experience in the Luftwaffe who later transferred to U-Boats. This one is the other way around. He was a medical doctor, served on U-Boats and became the pilot of a Bachstelze on one of the Type IX "Monsun" boats.

      This is what he flew.

      Hi Gordon,

Interesting info about one of the Monsun U-Boat crew that visited my country, Singapore. Thank You very much :)

Attached below is some more related info.

    3. Ibrahim I might also add that they were also made of zinc and solid. Here is my Wernstein in need of its" bi-annual pest removal. Any mention of this type in the book you have? Robert

      Hi Robert,

Thank You for the reply.Thats a very interesting tinnie and it matches close to the one shown below.

    4. Hi everyone,

I did a bit of research on my first tinnie i just bought. It is a 10th Anniversary of the Weimar Party Rally July 1926-1936 (10 J?hrige Wiederkehr des Reichsparteitages Weimar 1926) by G.Danner of M?hlhausen, Th?ringen.

It seems that there are actually 2 makers of this tinnie, the other being H.Wernstein. This can be seen in Ulric Of England's excellent book Deutschland Erwache.

Is my assumption correct? Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

    5. A photo of six german crew member of the auxiliary cruiser "Thor" in front of the "Fuji" in Hakone/Japan, at the end of october or november 1942. It?s also possible that the soldier on the right wears such an japanese auxiliary cruiser badge, but the photo was not good enough to be sure.

      Hi Monsun,

What a coincidence, you mentioning Lake Hakone...

As you know im currently making a website about the Monsun U-Boats.And as part of the introduction, i'll be writing something about the Kriegsmarine in Japan.

Please see here for more pics and a short summary about them http://www.singapore-ww2-militaria.com/mon...at_history.html

As always i'll always be updating the webpage as time goes by, so please check it out ;)

BTW:- Gordon, i used one of your pic for that section i wrote ( ive watermarked it with your name), hope you are ok with it, else i'll remove it.

      Cheers,

      Ibrahim,

      Singapore.

    6. Hi again Monsun,

    7. Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to inform everyone of my website update. This time with the help of my friend Mahandis from Indonesia we manage to get pictures of The German War Memorial - Arca Domas in Tjikopo/Cikopo 70km south of Jakarta,Indonesia. Buried there is the Monsun U-Boat, U-195 Cmdr.Friedrich Steinfeldt with several of his crewmen. http://www.singapore-ww2-militaria.com/arca_domas.html

I'll be updating that page with more info & history about it soon.

Upcoming updates to my web will be

1)The Tiger Club in Singapore where officers of the Monsun U-Boats had their R&R

2)The Kriegsmarine typewriter used to draft the proclamation of Indonesia's Independance.

3)OSS maps showing docking bay of Monsun U-Boats In Surabaya,Jakarta, Singapore & Penang.

      Cheers,

      Ibrahim,

      Singapore.

    8. Why thank you, Ibrahim.

The pictures were no problem, only took a short time...

Er, any chance that you would be kind enough to permit me to use one or two of your medal pictures on my site?

Sure Megan . No problem. :D

Hopefully I'll complete my collection of enamel SAF unit badges by the end of my army reservist this october.

Those babies look very cool...and i'll of course post it here once its done.

      Cheers,

      Ibrahim,

    10. Thank you for the info, Rick Research & also to you too Dave-B for the pics (im in multiple militaria forums with the same username, so hope that explains the d?j? vu)

I would also like to point out that Wayne H Techet book on etched bayonets is an excellent starting point for a beginner like myself to see comparisons between a "reddick" blade and a pre-45 etched blade.

Ive never met Rex Reddick but based on what i heard from fellow collectors, hes a nice person who sells his stuffs as it is, "reproductions".

Its the unscrupulous buyers who buy and sell them as the real deal that we have to worry about.

For me, as a beginner, reading & buying books , contacting well known dealers/authors such as Wittmann , Tom Johnson, etc, & getting info from various militaria forums before & after purchasing an item, are some of the steps that i do to be ahead of these reproductions.

BTW:- Rex Reddick has also contributed to the collector community. Hes reprint of the Eickhorn Catalogs, Heinrich Doehle'Orden und Ehrenzeichen im Dritten Reich, etc... allows non german speaking guys like myself to learn more about Third Reich militaria. Thanks Rex!

      Cheers,

      Ibrahim,

      Singapore.

    11. Hi everyone,

Ive been reading several militaria forums and the word "Reddick" etched blades comes out occasionally.

      1) Am i right to say that "Reddick" here means the person, Rex Reddick who reproduced the Eickhorn Catalogs?

      2) By mentioning a "Reddick" etched blade, its a reproduction right?

      3) Is this his current site? http://www.reddickmilitaria.com/index.php

      4) If he indeed created reproduction etched blades, when did it all started and is he still in business? ( I checked the website but seems like there arent any etched blades )

      5) Could some of you guys post pictures of these "Reddick" etched blades so that us, beginner guys know what to look out for ?

Really appreciate for any help given & Thank You.

      Cheers,

      Ibrahim,

      Singapore.

    12. Hi all,

Ive been reading past posts in this forum and noticed that members mentioning an Atwood fake/reproduction of certain edged weapons.

      3 questions to ask,;-

      1) Does the name Atwood refer to Major James P. Atwood, the author of the book "The Daggers and Edged Weapons of Hitler's Germany"?? From what i read it is him.

      2) How reliable is his reference book ??

      3) Whats the story behind these Atwood fakes ??

Really appreciate for any help given. Thank You.

      Cheers,

      Ibrahim,

      Singapore.

    13. Oh, I thought you meant collectors of Asian ODM. Not collectors of Asisn origin who chooect that Nazi stuff. OK.

      Hi Ed_Haynes,

I collect both Singapore Army & Third Reich Militaria. I serve for close to 3 years in the army here and really want to show u guys some of the neat patches/medal(only got one) & docs i got. Plus a cool poster of all the Singapore regimental colors ,Plus ... pics of my service :D . but until i feel that i can present them in a fitting way as ive done above that will have to wait.

BTW; From the tone of your statement i hope you dont think im biase or a Nazi nut. I collect Third Reich stuffs because of 2 things;- the excellent craftmanship & design plus the history behind it ( Im 80% complete in creating my website about the Monsun U-Boats in Singapore,Penang & Indonesia). I respect all militaria collectors rgardless of different collecting fields who are in this as a hobby and nothing whatsoever to do with politics.

Been to Singapore a few times. Cannot say I saw more than a few bits and pieces of British WW1 trios. What's the market like out there if you are inro serious collecting? And what sort of stuff do you find mainly?

      Jim

      Hi Jim,

Wish we could have met while you were in Singapore. ;) For militaria collectors, market here is basically close to non

existence. Though i know ocassionally they are sold in the flee markets here. All i know is that there are a total of 3 Third Reich collectors ; 2 Singapore Army collectors . Ive been to all the important WW2 museum here and taken pictures for my website especially British/ Japanese militaria... I'll inform u once my website is completely done.

On another note i do know that in neighbouring Japan & especially China there are groups of guys who have the dough to buy really high end Third Reich stuffs!! Unfortunately because of the language barrier u dont see them in militaria forums though i do and have seen one chinese guy who posted his spectacular collection in the WAF forum. A jaw dropping collection....

      Cheers,

      Ibrahim,

      Singapore.
