    1. As I am too poor and cannot afford such impressive award documents

the only docs in my collection are the one of "Oberst Dommenget".

First you see the preliminary award doc for the "Spanienkreuz in Bronze".

The request page at the bottom is cut off.

    2. Dear Gentlemen,

I want to show you my small collection of the Hesse "General Honor Decoration" of the last serie, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig 1894-1918.

As you might know the obverse shows always the bust of Ernst Ludwig, but the reverse is the interesting thing with this decoration :D

You can hunt after 9 different reverse descriptions:

      - F?r Tapferkeit

      - F?r Kriegsverdienste

      - F?r Verdienste

      - F?r Treue Dienste

      - F?r Langj?hrige Treue Dienste

      - F?r F?nfzigj?hrige Treue Dienste

      - F?r Rettung von Menschenleben (1894-1896)

      - F?r Wiederholte Rettung von Menschenleben (up to 1896)

      - F?r Treue Arbeit

Let`s start with the common description "F?r Tapferkeit" (for bravery) on a single bar.

    3. Hello David,

an important source is the Regimental History.

There was a Waldeck Fusilier Battalion up to 1862; after that date it went under Prussian control.

In 1867 the Battalion was disbanded and 16 officers and 182 men joined the 83rd Prussian Infantery Regiment. These troops formed the 3rd Battalion of the Regiment, which garrison was Waldeck`s capital - Arolsen.

The new name of the Regiment was "Infanterie-Regiment von Wittich (3. Kurhessisches) Nr. 83".

Prince Friedrich of Waldeck was the chief of it from 1913.

The Regiment formed part of the 22nd Prussian Division in the war of 1870-71 and even in WW-1.

      Some sources:

      Dr. August R?per:

"Geschichte des IR von Wittich (3. Kurhessisches) Nr. 83 von 1866 bis 1913"

      Berlin, 1913

      Hauptmann a.D. Wahrenburg:

      "Reserveinfanterieregiment Nr. 83"

      Oldenburg, 1924

      Oberstleutnant a.D. Clausius:

"Infanteriergeiment Nr. 83 im Krieg 1914-1918"

      Oldenburg, 1926

      Freiherr Dalwigk zu Lichtenfels:

"Geschichte der waldeckischen und kurhessischen Stammtruppen des IR 83 von Wittich (3. Kurhessisches) Nr. 83 von 1681-1866"

      Oldenburg, 1909

For the ODM the best source is the above mentioned book by Gert Elfer !!

The Regimental Histories are hard to find. I am also looking for these, but nothing up to now :(

For some pictures of ODM please try this thread:

    4. Dear Gentlemen,

I am a "Beamter" with the Police Administration in the State of Nordrhein-Westfalen.

For me that means a lifetime job without the risk of becoming unemployed :D

On the other hand for Beamte it`s forbidden to participate on a strike, even if the Government decide`s that you have to work longer for less money, as happened last year :o:mad:

Unfortunately nowadays there is no Beamten-Uniform or -Dagger (if you?re not a member of the uniformed services) ;)

      Greetings

      eitze

    5. And the last - "Lawrence of Arabia" :D

Two good books on the medals and the campaign:

      - Lt Col A.R. Tinson: Orders & Medals of the Sultanat of Oman (Spink, London, 1995)

      - Peter Thwaites: Muscat Command (Leo Cooper, London, 1995)

Once I`ve collected ODM of the Sultanat of Oman ;)

      Greetings

      eitze

They were also issued since 1971 and manufactured by the firm of Blackwell Young & Co., London.
