Dear Gentlemen,
I would like to show you my small collection of awards and documents of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) 1941-45.
Let`s start
First a mounted group which consists of the small (35 mm) Silver Ante Pavelic Bravery Medal and the Wound Medal with ribbon for one wound.
Front

And now the decoration Gefreiter Engelhardt got.
"Zeljesnu Kolajna sa Hrastovim Grancicama Krune Kralja Zvonimira" means:
Iron Medal of the Order of the Order of King Zvonimir`s Crown with Oakleafs.
This was the lowest class of the whole Zvonimir system. Nethertheless very interesting.
Here is a picture of a similar medal.

Monkey,
unfortunately the Westphalen medals are rare and even here in Germany it has not been written much about the first (round medal) and the second model (oval medal).
The first model was issued on 17.06.1809 by King Jerome (Hieronymus in German) Napoleon in gold and silver.
In the same year the design was changed into the oval medal, also in gold and silver. The gold medals are ultra rare and I haven`t seen any by now.
All medals were made of gold and silver, but not of bronze.
The second model has two different embossings. The easiest way to see the difference is to count the cannon balls.
The first type has six and the second type has seven.
As you can see, mine belongs to the second type.
Von Hessenthal and Schreiber wrote in their book "Ehrenzeichen des Deutschen Reiches", that the 2. not officially embossing was made in Paris/France at a later date. That is all I can add now.

eitze, is there any Braunschweig regiment for which you do not have a Waterloo medal? Congratulations on a great collection.
Wild Cat, there are half a dozen Braunschweig regiments which are still on my list.
But let me thank you for starting this wonderful thread
After all that years it is always a joy to skip through the pages and look at all this fantastic medals !!!
The Guelphic Medal is a very impressive piece - thank you for showing!
Unfortunately they are so high priced today, that they are out of reach for me
Is it correct, that the main difference between the military and civil division is the adding of the military rank in the naming?

These are nice pieces, but the Rokel Order (even in gold) was a little bit expensive in 1999.
I`ve got only one piece of Sierra Leone.
It is the "First Anniversary Medal" in bronze. In the past I owned a similar one in silver; so perhaps there will be also one in gold?
The medal comes in a small box and was made by Huguenin, Le Locle in Switzerland.
if any one is interested in it, please let me know!

If I am already in the Napoleonic section, I can show you my latest acquisitions
Hannover:
Campaign Medal for 1813
It came with an old ribbon.
The medal was issued on 11.05.1841 by King Ernst August.

Hello monkey,
these are two fine medals you`ve acquired
The correct German naming for the Hessen-Kassel medal is "Kriegsdenkmünze". So campaign medal would be the name.
This medal was awarded in Bronze with rim engraving for combattants and in black iron without engraving for non-combattants.
The latter is much rarer!
The year 1821 isn`t that late for a medal for the Napoleonic wars.
My two Waldeck campaign medals shown in posting 88 and 89 were issued on 14.01.1850 !!!
Not many veterans were still living at that date. Only 369 pieces were awarded.

Not to poo poo on anyone who has earned one but the construction sure is shabby. It shows that the slide in craftsmanship that started in 1918 is still continuing. A shame.
All German Army decorations and even the German Order of Merit are nothing but a shame for a country, which once produced the finest orders in the World in past days
But today the government has no "Feeling" for such stupid things like orders.
The result is a cheap piece of metal with some plastics on it!

Meet
Karl Eduard Heinrich BRIELE.
He was born on 18.12.1885 in Nieder-Wildungen / Waldeck-Pyrmont.
You`ll find him in the Waldeck Roll Book on page 36.
Karl was awarded the "Silberne Verdienstmedaille mit Schwertern" on 11.05.1915 (Roll). In his military papers the date was given as 15.05.15. At that time the Regiment No. 83 was in action against Russians in the east. So perhaps he got the medal for that front or for the service at the westfront before. The medal was his first award.
Three years later came the EK-2 for the fighting in the west on 17.05.1918.
His "Führungszeugnis" for the pre-war military service was signed by Hauptmann Hans von Winterfeld. Prior joining the IR 83 he was a member of the China Expedition in the Boxer War.
Before the war he was awarded the 4. class of the Waldeck Merit Cross and on 03 10.1914 as a Major he got the 3. class with swords (Roll Book page 10).

Hello,
I`ve got new additions for the Waldeck-Pyrmont Roll Book.
So grab your edition and let us start.
Goldene Verdienstmedaille mit Schwertern:
Musketier Heimel (page 25)
Musketier Prager (page 27)
Both member of 12./ IR 83
They got their medal for the following deed:
On 07.04.1918 both men saw a wounded German soldier lying in no mens land. A French patrol of 4 men were approaching the soldier. Despite of heavy machine gun fire both men rushed forward to save the wounded. They killed one of the French, two others fled and the fourth, Lt. F. Chutelle of the French 120. regiment, was taken PoW. After that they managed to get the wounded comrade back.
Beside the Waldeck decoration both men also received the EK 1. class for that action!
Verdienstkreuz 4. Klasse mit Schwertern:
Lt. der Reserve
Neumeyer
III./ IR 83 (page 16)
After storming the town of Sancourt, the enemy started a counterattack with some tanks. The bataillon was forced to withdraw. During that action he was KiA on 30.09.1918.
Lt. der Reserve
Leyh
I./ IR 83 (page 15)
He was KiA on 30.09.1918 when the Regimental Headquarters in Abancourt was hit by artillery fire.
He was spilled in the basement, just after returned from a frontline holiday one day earlier!
Lt. der Reserve
Hohmann
Leader of 11./ IR 83 (page 14)
He was KiA on 07.10.1918 at the road Fresnes - Gavelle, after the enemy has stormed the German trenches. He was decribed as a hero, who was killed at the head of his company!

Hope you like it
