and the back of this Roman helmet badge, anybody recognize this badge?
0 -
Here is an unknown badge which I believe is a Commonwealth cap badge as it is made with similar characteristics (copper stamped, same pin set-up). Unfortunately, there are no markings at all, only lightning bolts and a Roman style helmet in the center. Any ideas on this unique cap badge?

The back of this unknown stickpin, with a closer up view.

Another stickpin for discussion, I really am not sure about where this one fits in. It is the German eagle with no crowns or swaztikas. It is in pristine shape which leaves me to believe it is a modern copy, but it might be a DDR stickpin as well, or a Imperial copy. Can anybody shed some light for me?
Cheers,
Pat

Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice, bur I would like to see another 1940 model pin before I give up on this one. It is die-struck (definitely not a casting) and seems to be period material. I think it would be possible for a few die characteristics to change over a couple years and maybe different makers with different dies. I guess we'll have to see if anyone else has one.

and the reverse of the WVR Dresden 1922 tinnie/badge. It is made by Glacer and Sohn of Dresden. Any info on this maker and badge?

Here is another badge along the same lines of veterans awards, a W.V.R Dresden 1922 badge with an edelweiss flower in the center. Does anybody know what W.V.R. stands for? Is it related to the Stahlhelm or Friekorps? I am assuming it is a veteran's group from Dresden, but any further information on this subject would be great.
Thanks again,
Pat

and the back of the Prussian medal. It is marked Ges.Gesch on the back.

Here is my Prussian service medal (Preussischer Landes Kriegerverband) which has seen better days. I think these originally had a "25" attachment to them, but maybe they weren't on them all. I believe this is a long-service medal for the Prussian Army at the turn of the century. If anybody knows when this medal was made and any more information on it I would be grateful.
Thanks,

The reverse, with a lengthy spiel in German. I believe this Kyffhauserbund medal was an official issue for members of the veterans association who were in ww1. Any translation and info is great.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,
I have a few more Imperial items to post for discussion, so I will use this topic for my current and future Imperial medals as they come in, so keep checking for new stuff!
First up, a Kyffhauserbund 1914-1918 medal. I am missing the ribbon so if anyone would like to post the correct ribbon (and proper name of this medal) that would be great. I think this is an official award, and any info is helpful.

and the back of the Royal Montreal Regt. cap badge. Any other examples out there?

Here we have the Royal Montreal Regiment cap badge. It is still very shiny and in great shape. I think it is ww2.

the reverse, a very nice badge..

Next up is a Wentworth Regiment Cap badge. It is a two colour design and I like the maple leafs around the horn. Again, not sure if it is ww2 or ww1, but I assume it's ww2. Any experts able to tell?
Thanks,
Pat

and the reverse of the New Zealand 3rd Auckand Infantry cap badge.

Here is my only New Zealand WW2 cap badge. It is from the "3rd (Auck) Regiment N.Z. Infantry" . I'm pretty sure it is ww2 but it might be earlier. Any ideas on this are welcome. Any other New Zealand cap badges out there?

Thanks guys,
I purchased it from a store with no refunds, and the other two items I picked up there were good, so I guess you just never know. Luckily, I only paid $40 Cdn (about 20 British pounds), so I guess it's just a high priced repro...
P.S.
I have had fairly good results (besides some TR badges and a few SS items being bogus) so it kind of eases the pain a little. If anyone would like to lend some opinions to my other items I recently posted mainly in TR General Awards and in the various TR equipment and insignia forums for the kriegsmarine, heer, and lufwaffe. All of the help I have received so far has been invaluable and I hope to contribute more to the site as my knowledge increases. I must say, i should go with my gut feelings from now on because most of my suspicions were true, so i guess that's a good sign to help with future purchases (not to mention posting new items for discussion before buying).
Thanks again,
Pat

Is your Ludendorff head made of cast iron and magnetic? It appears to be a very similar item with the hollow back and all. Any idea if these are catalogued anywhere if they are valuable?

I think it is a copper based form of kriegsmetall, in other words, a mix. It's definitely not tombak or pure zink, as it is not very dark.. I am not the best at judging metals, so if anybody else has any ideas please help out. The pin appears to be copper based as well, but I am not 100% certain.

More Tinnies from the Collection

Hi folks,
I just thought I would post a few of my other tinnies for opinions on originality, makers, rarity etc. I have quite a few for discussion so I will continue to update this topic as I get them scanned in. Please leave your advice on these as I really value the info. All info is good, even some basic stuff I might not know as I am fairly new to this. First up on the tinnie list, a Tag der Wehermacht 1939 Pirmasens pin. Any thoughts on it?
Thanks,
Pat
