    1. Hi all,

Just to ask a question related to this topic which I have not yet been able to figure out. The Saxony Albert Order had to add-ons of swords, crown and wreath. Like other states, I assume swords meant a wartime award and a crown an award for extra merit. But the wreath has got me stumped. Anyone care to inform me why some examples of the order have the wreath and others don't?

      Thanks very much,

      Matthew

    2. Hi all,

Could anyone tell me wheher the Silver cross of merit of the house order shown below is original or not. According to the seller it weighs 31 grams. It is 57.9mm high including ribbon ring, 41.2 mm wide and 7mm thick. What I know about this medal is that it is made out of silver and less than 400 were awarded. To tell the truth, i'm asking about it just because it is not common, and therefore i am being very cautious. (And not to moan, but it is quite an expensive buy for a 16 year old  )

Thank you all for your help and time,

      Matthew

    3. Hi Matthew,

I find this interesting. I had always thought medals were mounted in the order received. Just another thing to look out for, my thanks.

      Best wishes

      Matt

      Hi Matthew,

There are often exceptions to what I said above, such as wearing them in the order given to the recipient, as you said. However, I believe that most soldiers wore them by the size of the state. For example, why is the iron cross nearly always on the far left, if not because Prussia was the biggest and most important state? And where there are bavarian awards they are nearly always exactly behind prussian ones. Then saxon, wurttemberg and so on. In fact, since you collect medal bars with hanseatic crosses (which by the way I really like) I think you'll find them near the end of the medal bar, since the free cities were the least important of all the states.

      Regards,

      Matthew
