    1. Hi North Denmark;

This is Alfonso XII or Alfonso XIII kingdom. Around 1880 -1890.

If you need more information please do not hesitate to contact me.

      Best Regards.

Hi Padelman. Thanks for your help. I am sending you a PM. Here a picture of the marks.

    2. These awards were gazetted in the Negeret Gazetta- a complete run of which (in English) I believe is in the British Library. Some war time awards however were not gazetted- as many -if not all- exile awards.

Hi Ulsterman. I'm not quite sure what a "negated Gazetta" is, but there exist a record of most recipients :)

      From: http://www.ethiopian...decorations.htm #TheOrderofEmperorMenelikII

"It is probable that the design of the Order was influenced by the Montenegrin Order of Danilo which had passed into abeyance with the fall of the kingdom and its absorption into the United Kingdom of Yugoslavia. This Order was also made by Arthus-Bertrand in Paris."

    3. Hi North Denmark,

If you PM me, I have a possible recipient for that last bar.

      /Michael

Thanks to Great Dane for Great Help. Without revealing the name of the recipient, I can say that the Order of the White Elephant is awarded before 1919. Japan X You're right about the metal, silver gilt but without marks

    4. The first Military Agent sash appears French assembled and the second one German made..... Your choice may depend on whether you have a French or German set. Even though it has no maker mark, I tend to think your set is of late French [1970s] manufacture based on the reverse finish, pin shape & crown attachment rivets.

Since the mid-late 1950s, at least, almost no sashes are made of 'real silk' in any case--usually they are rayon synthetic material often with a printed morie pattern. At best, silk on cotton is used.

Just to be sure. You think this might be French made: https://www.militari...NKNOWN_101.html

    5. 922F. Many thanks for the useful information. I have visited the page "Crown Council of Ethiopia." I thought this order of Menelik II ended after Haile Selassie's death in 1974, but it continued into 1996 where the order was split in two. You're right about the metal, it is bronze gilt and no makers marks as you can see on the back.

Mark. Thanks for your link, I had never found this one as it is listed as unknown. It is very cheap but I do not believe it to be "real silk". I can see they have two types for sale, which one should I choose? https://www.militari...NKNOWN_101.html - https://www.militari...UNKNOWN_97.html

I had only found these solutions but they are too expensive, especially because I might be swapping my set :speechless:

    6. Hi North Denmark,

well it is 5th class (a.k.a. Member) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant.

This one looks like it was made in silver and has nice hot enamel, so it's not from the last horrible vintages ;)

I'd say this piece was made in 50s-60s and definitely before 1978 (when the Order was reorganized and the form of suspension was changed). Before 1978 5th class of this order should be the most numerous one (since the number of holders for this class was unrestricted as opposed to higher classes).

      Hope that helps!

      Regards,

      Nick

Thanks Nick, you are a great help :) . I also have this version which is smaller 59*31.5 mm.There are also other differences as you can see. Is this an older type? (Order of the Dannebrog Christian X 1912-1947. Danish Red Cross Decoration of Honor 1916-1963)

    7. Hi All

I have this order that I would like to know more about. The star measures 83*78.8mm (123.5 grams). The badge 75 *49.2 mm. (48.8 grams). I've been told that this type was made in Paris by maker Arthus Bertrand. Hoping someone here knows more. How many Grand Cross were awarded (list of recipients), who manufactured the Order and how old it is. Please comment.

    8. Dear members

I could use some expert help on this Knight Cross to the Order of the Dannebrog Christian X (1912-1947). Unmarked Hollow construction in gold (karat?) 61*30 mm. 12,6 gram.

In the middle the Danish Red Cross badge of Honour. Instituted 19. 2. 1916 with the H.M. King Chr.X's approval. Only 261 awarded. Unmarked in silver by royal court jeweler Anton Michelsen. If anyone knows how old the Order of the white elephant is, it would be helpful.

      Please comment.

    9. Nice minis guys :)

North Denmark, are you sure noone fiddled with that second miniature bar (with the 2 Danish Dannebrog and the Dutch Oranje-Nassau)?

The Dannebrog Knight cross was awarded during Frederik VIII (1906-12) and the Dannebrog Silver Cross was awarded during Frederik IX (1947-72). That's a best case span of 35 years...

Of course it's physically possible, but quite unlikely since the Silver Cross was normally awarded as a "½ up" to a Knight who wasn't yet ready for a Commander, and normally done during the normal path of his career.

Maybe someone put the Silver Cross on as a placeholder, waiting for a Frederik VIII or Christian X version? The style of the bar suggests that the Frederik VIII Knight Cross is the original one for the bar.

      But nice bars nonetheless :)

      P.S:

I tried to look through my sources for a matching name for that lower bar in the glass frame, but no luck...

      /Michael

      Hi Michael

You are absolutely right. I have to look around for an older cross in silver, or I can swap the two Dannebrog crosses and let the silver come first (both orders had fallen off the bar then I got it, but still 35 years is a long time). Can you please tell in what time period this type of bar was used?

    10. Hi north denmark

thats just amazing, do I see an icelandic Order of the White Falcon Knights Cross? Do you know who the ODM belonged to?

      Hi David

The upper row in frame is composed by a previous collector. I do not know the recipient of the bottom row and the last medal is not correct. I still need to find the correct medal but I do not know the the Ribbon (It is not Order of St. Anna). Please help

And yes it is the Knight of the "Falke Orden" you see.

    11. Hi

Here an example of two different manufacturers. Left: G. A. Sheid. Right: V. Mayer's Söhne.

If anyone has examples of other manufacturers of these beautiful decorations, I would really like to see them. Rothe & Neffe has made the Verdiensstern but have they also made the smaller decorations?
