from Wikipedia:
"The 1st Administrative Battalion, Herefordshire and Radnorshire Rifle Volunteers was formed in 1861. It comprised the 1st to 8th Herefordshire Rifle Volunteer Corps and the 1st to 3rd Radnorshire Rifle Volunteer Corps, units of the Volunteer Force formed in the wake of the Crimean War (In this instance Corps refers to a Company-sized unit of around 100 men, not the more modern use of the word.)"

so 'Herefordshire Battalion' means 1st Administrative Battalion of the Herefordshire Light Infantry?

1860 National Rifle Association Medal with a silver Indian Mutiny or Second China War Medal suspender.
On the Herefordshire Battalion clasp there's a silver duty mark. Strangely a King George III mark?
Naming on the rim: CPL. C.J. SAXBY HEREFORDSHIRE SEPT. 26. 1865.
Was the Herefordshire Battalion a subdivision of the Herefordshire Light Infantry?
Is there anything known about a Cpl. Saxby?
thx zorg

I have frequently encountered various insignia of the order which is generally quite common but never the medals.
The order was created with 5 classes and these additional medals.

This cross has nothing to do with the german Iron Cross. It's a masonic Knights Templar badge for the sash or the cap. They have always these four prongs on the back to hold them in place.

BRUSSELS — Almost 200 years after Prussian and English troops defeated Napoleon at Waterloo, Belgian archeologists have unearthed the complete remains of a young soldier in what they dubbed a rare find.

Christophe,
it is my opinion that the cross is original. Either a bronze test specimen or a bronze cross in an unfinished state. Without silver-plating, pin and wreath.

Christophe, the size is as it should be; 42 mm and the weight ~ 20-25 g ...sorry, I have no accurate scales here. Only a kitchen balance. I try to find out the exact weight next week.

Btw. the maker still exists. "Seit 1857 liefert Fahnen Koch in Coburg Fahnen und Vereinsbedarf." Since 1857 they make flags and other requisites for clubs etc.

1860 NRA Medal with Mutiny or China War Medal suspender
in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals

Sure! It's a fiddled medal. Usually there are no suspenders on the 1860 NRA medals.

Hmmm ...but only the mark of King George 3rd have this prominent plait of hair to the left.
