    4. Hello, I'm uncertain if I'm posting this in the correct area, so please bear with me if I haven't. I am attempting to research an award of a King's Commendation to a Member of St John Ambulance. I have a pair of medals consisting of a Defence Medal with a silver King's Commendation device attached and a St John Service medal named to "30934 Sgt. N.H. Coombe. London S.J.A.B. 1944." If anybody can help with information about this award to Sgt. Coombe, or can steer me in the right direction for research, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks, David

    12. Hello Everybody, Once again I'm seeking help about a group of medals I have recently purchased. The group is a Defence Medal, 1953 Coronation Medal and a GVI Police LSGC Medal named to "Inspr. Harry Shaw". With the group is the box containing his Defence medal addressed to "Mr. H. Shaw, 3 Grasmere Road, Bennett Lane, Dewsbury." Any information on Inspector Shaw, and which Police Force he served with, would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, David
    13. Hi Peter, Thanks for your reply. Would you mind posting the details of the site you have suggested as it has not come up. Regards, David
    14. Hello everyone, I am seeking information on the World War Two service of 2616214 Guardsman Jonathan Alfred Belcher, Grenadier Guards. Guardsman Belcher enlisted on 7/2/1939 and was demobbed on 24/4/1946. He apparently served in the B.E.F. in 1939/40 and in North West Europe 1944/45 with the Guards Armoured Division. His medal group consists of the 1939/45 Star, the Africa Star, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal and the French Croix de Guerre. He was also awarded the Wound Badge No. G9287. I have no idea how he qualified for the Africa Star and I would greatly appreciate any information on when, where and how he was wounded and any information about the award of the Croix de Guerre. Thanking you all in advance. Regards, David
    15. Thank you both so much. Clearly Arthur Grover was not a well man if he died in 1908. Presumably he was still a relatively young man. Once again thank you both, I always appreciate the help I get through this site. Regards, David
    16. Hello Everyone, I'm looking for information on Metropolitan Police Constable Arthur Grover. He joined the Met on 25/9/1899 and left on 20/12/1902. He had Warrant Number 85536 and served in E Division. The most interesting point about P.C. Grover's short career was that he retired with a Gratuity on 20/12/1902. He was awarded the 1902 Coronation Medal. Any information about Arthur Grover would be much appreciated especially information about his gratuity. Thank you all in advance.
    17. Thank you Peter and Odin Mk 3. I really appreciate the help I get on this site. The research resources that so many people have never ceases to amaze me. Regards, David
    18. Thank you Peter, certainly some good tips for me to follow up. Regards, David
    19. Hello Everyone, Some time ago I purchased a Defence medal, Police LSGC pair, the Police LSGC is named to "CH. INSPR. EDWARD F. DOWSON'. The box for his LSGC medal came with the purchase and it is named "St. Helens". Any information about Chief Inspector Dowson or the St Helens Police would be much appreciated. Regards, David
    20. Hi Peter, Thank you so much for your reply. Yes this is almost certainly the same man. His full name was Herbert Richard Tiddy and he was born in Folkestone in 1887 according to the records I have. You have helped round out the picture of Herbert Tiddy and thank you for this. The possibility of him have war service gives me another angle to pursue. Once again thanks so much. Regards, Cat (David)
    21. Thanks Guys, You're both right, I just need to keep plugging away. How do I access death certificates in the U.K.? Also any suggestions about which newspaper I should look at? Are any of these online? I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I'm pretty new at all of this, so I hope I'm not being too much of a bother. Hopefully given time I'll be in a position to answer questions as well as pose them. Regards, Cat
    22. Hi Odin Mk3, Thanks so much for your reply. Yes, I do have copies of his service sheets. Maybe Herbert Tiddy's death will still remain a mystery. Regards, Cat
    23. Hello, This is my first post on this site. (By the way it is a really great site!) I recently purchased a 1911 Coronation Medal to P.C. H. TIDDY. Herbert Tiddy joined the Metropolitan Police on 27/7/1908 and was given Warrent Number 95960. He was attached to "F" Division. On 9/4/1925 he was prompted to the rank of Station Sergeant, by this stage he was attached to "S" Division. Police Orders of 12/21931 stated that Stn. P.S. Tiddy had died. Could anyone out there help me in finding out what happened to Herbert Tiddy? This is a very hard thing to research from Australia. All the best, Cat
    24. Hi Jerry, The "X" in the serial number denotes a member of the 2nd Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.).
