I'm not a medal collector but having seen a few WW1 groups, I would be very cautious of this one mainly due to having Australia engraved along with the name. As far as I was concerned Australian issued medals from this era only had the soldiers service number, rank, name and unit (in that order).

Compeletely different to the one which I recenly received from the UK and returned right away. I can answer Johnsy's question about the buttons; many of the UK produced tunic had the brass buttons but many had these leather economy buttons as well and sometimes a combination of both. The AWM have quite a few British made tunics and a large percentage do have the leather economy buttons.

By the way this is only from what I've seen, no 'expert' opinions here because I'm no expert, just an interested collector.

And...for Tony, the rank was worn on the right sleeve only in both WW1 and WW2 I believe.

I really couldn't see these as being tropical tabs. Many Officers did place there own collar tabs onto a tropical tunics but I have only ever seen continental tabs. Many just left the em's tabs on the tunics with the only feature identifying them as Officers being the continental shoulderboards. I did once have a tunic with pioneer shoulderboards which had been sew in converted to slip on using tropical tunic material for the tongue, but these were a very unique pair.

This is actually my first post on this forum, although I have been here a while.

I thought that I would post one of my favourite pairs of shoulderboards, a set of early tropical panzer grenadier boards for an enlisted man. These are the early ones used in North Africa as can be seen by the brown wool backing on the boards. They have seen quite a bit of wear and are very faded. These actually came on a nicely faded tan tunic complete with 'AFRIKAKORPS' cufftitle.
