    1. I can give you a possibility, not a definite.

In the 1966 Officer Register there are two LANDAUs on Active duty, one is Armor, the other is QM

In the 1968 Officer Register there are two LANDAUs, one is Artillery, the other is Finance

      LANDAU, BERT G III

      0-5234402

      Branch: Artillery

      Rank: First Lieutenant

Date of Rank: Aug 28 1967

      Entry Date: Aug 6 1966

Date of Birth: Aug 11 1942

      Status: US Army Reserve

      According to the Register

      1) He is serving as an Active Officer

      2) He has less than two years of college

      Hope this helps

    2. What an interesting group :jumping::jumping:

On the large medal bar, second from the end (also in pic #2) is the 'Benemerenti' Medal awarded by the Pope.

The 'Benemerenti' is awarded to lay men (later to women) who distinguished themselves by special services to either the Pontiff, or to the Catholic church. They are awarded only once a year and are rarely seen.

This one was bestowed by Pope Piux X (1903 to 1914).

For each pontiff there is a separate designed medal and ribbon.

It is perfectly in line with the St Johns awards.

The other awards have a religious bent to them but I am unable to pin them down.

I'll still keep looking because the last medal on the large bar looks familiar.

    3. Looking Good !! :jumping:

I have to admit that the Aussie awards are growing on me as well.

With the exception of yourself they are little seen.

My only Australian medal reference (besides the internet) is The National Honors & Awards of Australia by M Maton, which is a good 'general' starting point. Since its printing in 1995 I have had to make several updates.

    4. Hello Rick, your reply is much appreciated, and i understand 75% of what you are saying, but i am new to this aspect of collecting, could you expand on some of the jargon, ie, ''tab back'', ''record holder'', etc? Thanks, Mark

Welcome to Imperial Mania . . . er collecting, and a new language !

The metallic backing in the long bar is called a TAB BACK (you can see the tabs for attachment), not usually seen on a bar of more than four. This one being longer having 6. It would have been a weight issue on a uniform. Saggy bars :speechless1: especially on a 60+ year old.

    5. I'll bite
