    1. Interestingly, the ribbon is based on the colors used by Billy Mitchell for his own WWI aircraft insignia (and the first Air Corps patches). (Per the lecture at the '07 OMSA by the head of the DoD department that designed it.) We may not like it, but there is a conscious link back to history. And, for that, I give them points, many points, maybe enough points.

Dang . . .they actually used a historical perspective on the ribbon design. Gives them a great deal of points in my book

Thanks for the history lesson . . . now where's that good swift kick smiley (for me !)

    2. Not bronze stars, but battle stars for campaign participation.

This is a close-up of a larger picture (too big to post) of the 'awards' to the US Aircraft Carrier Carl Vinson

Personnel on the ship when the awards happened are authorized to wear said award on their uniform

    3. Are the Officer Registries available in a book/collected copied document format? Available at military bookstores & so forth?

They are in a bound format published by and for the US Army, distribution is limited

      Published in two volumes-

Volume 1 shows Active duty Officers only, more of a bio format

Volume 2 shows Active, NG, USAR and other officers, the format is basic info only

      Not found in military bookstores

Sometimes found at used bookstores in the military section

Most of mine were found on eBay, one was found in a used bookstore

There are Navy and Marine registers as well, but harder to find
