Hello Ed.
It gained or lost in the telling:
Perhaps Thueringischer Sangesmaennerverein ..b.R.Kr. these last three abbreviations I have no clue .
Bernhard H. Holst
Thanks Bernhard...I believe and was supporedt by Chip that the abbreviations were for Rote Kreuz.

Hi,
Not a hammer amigo! The 1915 Erfurt were not straight along the back... even when tey added the metal plate they had to bend it.... Here is a 1915 Erfurt with one of the regular ones with a straight flat plate...
I have the plate on my model made by Becker, it is straight and not bent but there are pings on the plate like the ones on some police sidearms from tacking posters up.
The top photo still looks like it was bent with the plate present. You can also see the stress put on the wood grips just under where the plate is bent.

I have recently acquired a medal rack with a Red Cross Medal. I've been able to find out ahead of delivery, part of the inscription that I like to know what it says:
Thür. ßaubesmännberein b R.Kr
Thanks....Ed

Someone know of the rarity of EKIIs made by Wilm of Berlin? First one I've seen.

Maybe it was used as a hammer, wouldn't be the first time a GI used his bayonet to hammer something.

Although I have a sawtooth, it is not unit marked. Looking for one, I know of one, can't have it, owner off my Christmas list. :)

ooooohhhhh.... that is nice indeed... and somehow it seems to Christmasy!!
Not bad for 100 years old. Santa came early.
I've now set about working on a Signal display and I'm finding signal items are far and few between.

1914 Erfurt, all matching except the grip screws, not Erfurt and the magazine is with a different number. Bore is bright and the groves are deep, 92% blue with 80% straw. It was quite dirty but it cleaned up well.
Front grip strap mark S.A.54. Signal Abteilung weapon #54 From research, this was a Bavarian signal unit that was organized in 1900. According to kaisercross.com, this was one of the only two signal units at the outbreak in 1914 and both were assigned to their respective Cavalry Corps. Soon the Germans realized just how important front line communications were and increased unit signal units. After 1914, this unit would have been broke into smaller units to create base signal companies for front line unit.

Thought I would include a Christmas motif since it was a Christmas gift to myself.

I sent off an email about one of his headgear....never heard a word back, that was a month ago.

And a PM returned, Ed.
I see what you mean by the inner core looking very new and shiny. I think though that is the effect of the flash. If you enlarge the photos, you can see wear on the details of the oak leaves etc.
On the other hand, isn't the price getting to be a bit pricey?
Take anything I say though with a grain of salt; I'm am far from expert.
You noticed the chunk out of the crown? Looks like it's been painted over. The seller has two more in a bit too pristine condition for me. I have some nice EKs but they are show some uniformed wear on high points.

But I could in PMs so there are some PMs inbound.

Take a close look at the crown on the EK and the bead wearing. Maybe I'm seeing into something that is not there:
For some reason the forum won't let me copy and paste......................
but I got smilies!!!!!

Can we have a link, please? That would be helpful.
The guy has a excellent feedback so who am I to judge.

Has anyone noticed or questioned a few EKII on Ebay, although marked and authentic, the almost pristine condition of the core black when the silver bead outline rather worn?

Surely in a non-flash flood area!!!!

I was told many battles ago, it's the Queen who tells the King where to place his steel balls.

The Infantry ones are more manly.......
Then why do they call the Infantry, the Queen of Battle???? ;)

Here are two group shots...
Looks like a cavalry unit on the right.

Some great photos in there. I wonder what their source is... Personal collections? Or are they culling from the internet? I couldn't tell...
Personal collection from my understanding.

M1879 Reichsrevolver short barrel 10.6mm.
Ed, I don't believe the Germans had flare gun holsters first war just a pouch for the rounds the weapon would be clipped to their belt.
Chris
Isn't that a cavalry belt? heres a pic of a holster a chum sent me that was for sale.
Eric
Looks like the same holster in the photo.

Both the brits and the germans had them. They were sometimes referred to as a signaling holster.
