    1. Closeups of my Alexander III. Perhaps someone can decipher the name above the 4th Squadron stamp, if it is a name.

      Thankshttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2013/post-16240-0-47165800-1380132064.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2013/post-16240-0-20277300-1380132135.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2013/post-16240-0-97487600-1380132201.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2013/post-16240-0-19385400-1380132263.jpg

    2. A few medals bars......one is named.

      http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2013/post-16240-0-75192200-1380130696.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_09_2013/post-16240-0-58160200-1380130755.jpg

I would be up for a trade for the Marine set. I don't collect Marine so if someone who does can offere a similar bar but not named, I'd be willing to trade in same condition.

The IC on the bar with the Hessian silver bravery medal was late war issue, very poor silver.

    3. Superb selection of crosses. What an incredible bonus to find that tucked away in the box. Fantastic.

Glenn, I knew it existed before I latched onto it, it had been offered just a few minutes before. When it arrived, he had folded the clipping back up and placed it as he found it. I traced the man and he survived the war. He was not on any casualty list or Denkmal somewhere.

    4. This next one is my honey, I was in the right place, right time and it was orgasmic when it arrived. The newspaper clipping was folded twice and the recipients name underlined and was fitted perfect under the ribbon space. You just can't get anything better, the Cross is in excellent condition.

    5. 1916 DWM, all matching except mag, unit marked to the Machine Gun Troop 9 Company, virtually impossible to find out what regt 'this' luger was assigned to. What would be needed is a unit serial number assignments.

    6. Studio photo of a squared away Machine Gunner troop, proudly displaying his MGSS badge, along with his new P-08 holster with probably has a brand new luger inside. His haube cover displays MG stamped which I haven't seen all that much. I would say he was assigned to an Ersatz MG unit with no specific regt affiliation. I can't see under mag glass his unit or his belt buckle inscription. Any idea Chris?

    7. I'm far from being an expert on P-08 Lugers, that takes years and years. Lugers are one of the most interesting sidearms and along with Colt 1911, are the top two that hold their value with a study increase in value. IMO...they are a good investment in the field of military collecting because they interest so many in so many different ways. Some will pass on unit marked Lugers, some will collect only unit marked Lugers regardless of it condition. Unit marked Lugers for the longest time were passed over by collectors but considering that such a small percentage (5%) of all pre-war and war Lugers were unit marked Lugers, they are now sought after. Not all units marked their Lugers and were not required by regulations. The most sought after of unit marked Lugers are MG, all branches of cavalry (Uhlan, Dragoon, Hussar; etc etc) and then infantry/artillery but the demand depends upon the collector's interest. The German High Command did issue a guide to marking but that was very seldom followed which proposes problem, especially MG unit marked Lugers. If the regiment number is not include, it's hard to determined was that MG Company was assigned to. I like Machine Gun myself when I can afford it. I've been searching for a Bavarian MG unit marked Luger with at least 95% blue with 92+ straw. Value depends upon condition, unit, matching numbers and added accessories. If it's holster is available and is also same unit marked, the value goes up, with matching magazines, spare included and has it's takedown tool, it would take a savings account that I don't have. At the moment I have five unit marked lugers. I recently sold off all my Weimar/Nazi police unit marked Lugers and have continued with Imperial only.

My other Imperial Militaria items I have is to highlite the Luger displays and like so many here already know, that can be just as expensive as the Lugers but it's all enjoyed because it's the History that is the subject. I've collected WWII German Fallschirmjäger and Gebirgsjäger and Weimar/Nazi Police, British Para and Italian but I've never been in one place long enough to collect firearms until now.

My first unit marked Luger I shall post has been recorded on page 89, Imperial German Regimental Marking by Jeff Knoll. Rev Edition. 1915 DWM s/n 5303c with Regimental marking, 1.M.G.21.A., Maschinengewehr-(Scharfschutzen) Abteilung 21. Kompanie 1. all matching except magazine. Assigned to the 221 Inf Div. What it interesting about his Luger, it was reconditioned at war's end, a sear safety was added (police required) and issued to a Weimar police unit but....the Imperial unit marking was not marked through (canceled out) and the police unit added or not added.

    8. I think thats all the info nailed. Pity they did not fill out the full battles.

Did you get it specifically for the unit?"2 E.M.G.IX.35".

Hello Chris...yes, this man has a special interest because I recently acquired a 1913 Erfurt Luger with the unit markings "2 E.M.G.IX.35". which is a unit he was assigned to. I had seen the Luger some time ago and had see this militarpass also some time ago but considering my age, the two didn't click until a couple of weeks ago. The two will accompany each other on another Prussian display I have.

On page eight of the pass, there is a personal info that someone wrote about Cpl Kunst and this is something I'd like to know if possible. It's a replacement pass and was probably filled out at wars end to send him home with something of his service other than word of mouth.

Also, I took a some time earlier and went through all your MG photos on "A Soldier's Burden". Some real great photos to have. I have one that I just acquired and it should be here this week of a fine MGSS soldier studio photo I will post. I will send you a larger file through email, if you would like to add it to your file.

    9. I'm a bit perplexed on the shoulder straps, however...as always.

The guy on the left appears to be an Offizier-Stellvertreter. You can clearly see his flaming bomb and what looks like a "5"...possibly in metal. There is a center line down the middle of the strap as well, leading me to believe there is another number on the other side (I think it's a "1", but can't tell for sure).

      Thoughts on this one?

There's a lot going on in this one - not least of which are the brand new EK2's and the mustaches, two of Chris' favorites.

Three new "heroes" in early 1915 it would seem by the inscription on the reverse. Any help with the name is appreciated.

The guy standing and the guy sitting on his front right could be twin brothers.

    10. Haven't heard "flippies" in a long time, G.I.

My favorite was always Flensburger from the north. A lot of small breweries still use the flip top bottle.

Couldn't get them around Hanau, but we sure drank Graf dry and we carried more cases back that our trucks and tracks were more full going home than going to Graf. The guns went and returned by rail.
