Wild guess: electrical fire in the radio equipment.

Here is its "big brother." The 1870/71 medal has no edge engraving.

Right up my alley.

Thanks for saying. Back to the dealer!

Lovely bars. Mine has no swords, and is "reversed."
I have a question regarding #2, above. Originally, do you think the hangers and loops were tucked beneath the overlap of the ribbons?

I wonder what the "saddlebags" represent? A handguard for foil or epee?

Reverse, and a close up. Thanks for looking.

Simple little thing. I believe this clasp represents the last of the series beginning 1893.

Reverse of bar. Thanks for looking.

Reverse of medal. Is the maker recognizable from this monogram?

I received this recently from my good friend Mike Dunn.
For what was the "Ehrenlegion" piece awarded?

It's peeking out from the box you sent me...

I'm not sure I understand the question... the top pic is "before" and the bottom pic is "after."

Some time ago, I noted this piece's ribbon was loose in its ring. I gave it a 180 degree spin (and a little tug like one might give an errant bow tie)... and whadda ya know.
It's possible that this side of the ribbon is the "front" - perhaps the "other" side received its abrasion from the jacket material against which it lay, and somehow and at some time got spun around in the ring.

How about a simple little...

I think he wants the value on the ribbon only.

Award plaque. I also have some of the prototype proximity fuses he helped design!
Thanks for looking.

...someone can recommend a good overview that would be great.
It's right under your nose. This forum is your best answer. Also try:

I think they are the same badge. Look at the little flaw beside the "S" in "Deutsch."
Camera flash made the dealer's pic look that way.
In my opinion, I'd rather have the piece w/patina; not that shiny "new-looking" thing. matches your box better.
... than again, the flaw over "IM" is not consistent. Oh well, they've done this before... stock photo for several items available. Usually the description says "price each."
