    1. pmargulies: that ribbon bars will be harder to get... there are at this time too many collectors of slovak WWII militaria... :(

you mean order of Slovak national uprising II.class? cased... i know only about medals, without case.. but if I will see some, will let you know...

Iver - Yes, I am looking for the Slovak National Uprising II cased...I've seen a few uncased examples before. Definately let me know if you find a cased example.

I've only seen a few ribbon bars on the internet before.

Do you know how many of the Slovak National Uprising 1st class medals were issued? Is it hard to find/rare?

    2. what exactly are U looking for? maybe I can help...

I am looking primarily for ribbon bars that have both German/Slovak awards and the National Uprising Medal 2nd class, cased. I have the 1st class cased and several of the third class medals, but stupidly passed on a cased 2nd as i had hoped to find it in Bratislava.

    3. ...and heavy.... numbered too! (#8801). No idea what it is, but it came in a wonderful red box, which given its construction, I suspect was once Hungarian.

I came across one of these in Bratislava earlier this year and was told it was some sort of National Guard type award. Don't know if it was true or not.

    4. Nice items, thanks. Sudan is one of those areas where too little reliable information is available, and Spink steadfastly refuses to share what they know.

Thanks much Ed, I will try and post the translated descriptions of all the items later. It is too bad that Spink won't share the information. The piece I got off ebay is a Spink medal. Interestingly, the Sudanese no longer issue medals - they only issue the ribbons. I had a former Sudanese Defense Attache help me locate about 1/2 of my loot.

    5. Great finds-congratulations!

I hope to do some posting in December when I return home and will have the facilities to do it properly.

There are some very interesting items out there, just takes hard work!

Looking forward to it. There was a lot more out there, but I wasn't sure if I would get it all back through Customs (Sudanese).

    6. Nice collection you have there, Do you have any Iraqi ODM that you can post? Going to Countries of where your favorite ODM is at, makes it so much eaiser collecting.

      Thank you for your Pictures:

      God Bless

      SSG Luna, Lorenzo

I have a bit of Iraqi ODM, but it was obtained through friends...I haven't been sent yet - though STATE is about to change that for a lot of people. I will see if I can hunt down my mini medal set from Iraq - it is pretty cool. Thanks for looking and I always enjoy your posts.

    7. As in most foreign countries it takes time and a major effort to build up connections amongst the local sources and further,to also identify them. There are market places in and around Khartoum where you might find some articles.I have been in Sudan since January and travel a lot around the country. There are no dealers or sources in the South, you will have to hopefully befriend serving SPLA soldiers or people who served who possibly may have something available. It takes a lot of time and hard work and you also end up buying articles you do not really need or want in an attempt to maintain these identified sources and also too provide them with some inspiration to find what you are actually looking for.As stated by the people who know, there are not many sources available on Sudanese medals which makes it even more difficult to identify or even request specific items.

      Happy Hunting!

So, I didn't do too bad for a three week TDY...first of several Posts...

    8. For those you collect ribbons, here is something interesting for sale on eBay.

And here is again the drawings from the Yugoslavian ribbons.

      Yugoslavian Ribbons

I bought two sets of these from Goran and really like them. They were very hard to find while I was in Belgrade and only came out after I left. They make a nice addition to the collection and are reasonable priced. Paul.

    9. Gentlemen - The flat, thin wreath which looks fairly cheap compared to its Russian made brethren is legit. It is an IKOM version. Several important collectors in Belgrade had the IKOM versions which didn't come up on the market all that often. I am sure once Ranko is on his feet again he could weigh in. Marko, his son, is also pretty knowledgable. Regards. Paul.

As a matter of fact, Walter, if you find an extra IKOM version let me know... thanks. Paul.

    10. Dear Walter,

please, could you shoot some close-up pics of the Partisan 1cl and post them here at GMIC-YU - many thanks  .

What we can see already now at the small & bad pics is not the "classical" 1cl type and also the colour of the gold wash looks a bit strange (besides the far too thin wreath).

      Best regards

    11. With pleasure.I have also found some Sudanese medals which I have not been able to identify or confirm. The best one appears to be an Order of the Republic as described in your article.

Hey, you will have to tell me where you have found medals! I am going to Khartoum early next week for a three week TDY. I will also likely be travelling to Juba and El Fahser, possibly even Niyala.

    12. Hi Christian,

Sinngidunum - a full address is http://www.singidunum-online.com/ - is not owned by Milan, but by my son Marko. I also help him a bit in his numerous contacts with OMD collectors.

Someone mentioned low prices of miniatures in Belgrade. Those prices are offered by Singidinum only, and there is still some small quantity on stock.

      Best regards to all,

Ranko Mandic, editor of the magazine "Orden"

published by the Serbian Numismatic Society in Belgrade

Ranko - It is great to see you on this forum. I have told others on this forum that you and Bjelos had been giving thought to publishing a new guide on YU militaria. Hope that is still on the horizon. I still go over the ODM book you did on Albania. Anyway, hope to see you more on this site! Regards. Paul.
