This grouping has been lost in the mail for 6 weeks now. The spanish cross has Peter(s) scratched in the back. Please let me know if it surfaces anywhere.

Where did you buy it ? May be it could give us an indication of in which country it could surface again. I'll be in Kassel soon, and keep an eye on.

The cross is an original Meybauer. As far as know, Meybauer crosses without swords had the swords removed whatever the MM, crest or L/13.

CHE, I think you're right, it is a Juncker one. The 3 crosses look the same manufacture.

I was thinging to a Meybauer but the more I'm looking, the more it looks to a Juncker.

Do you mean that the tank displayed at the Panzermuseum in Munster isn't an original ?

Even looking back through the documents in this thread we can see an example of an Oberst being awarded the Bronze grade without swords and a Major (two ranks lower) receiving the Silver. So rank doesn't seem to have played a role.

S**t ! I even never noticed it. So indeed, ranks didn't play a role. It could be depend on the importance of the played role during the civil war.

J. Angolia, in his book, on p.14, "the non-combattant award was rendered in accordance with position (rank), with the higher ranking officers receiving the silver spanish cross without swords". I don't know where he got this information, may be on observation of several documents.

Does somebody here own or know a document for the bronze cross without sword attributed to an officer, or a silver cross without swords attributed to an NCO?
