Indeed Joe, it has been less awarded than the RK, but fortunatly it doesn't interest to much the collectors.
I sold the third one few years ago. It was cased.
It is one of my favorite too..it retains a nice design with a very coloured ribbon.
Happy New year

exceptional!
what? a hundred times rarer than the Knight's Cross,
and moreso because of KC duplicates.
this has always been one of my favorite TR medals.
you are fortunate to have three...
but then you ARE jacques, king of the Condors!!

Hi Charlie,
welcome to the forum. In order to illustrate our/my opinion, I used pictures I have in my data base, And I confess that sometimes I don't know who is/was the original owner, and thus can't ask him the permission. So sorry if Harrier used your cross, I should had done the same, and I already did the same. The aim is to illustrate/discuss/ with collectors and sometimes give an help. I just give my opinion, it is not THE absolute truth , but just an opinion; it has to be confirmed by others, by books, by experts, and overall our own opinion and feeling. I never try to convince anyone, but just give my feeling.
Concerning the drop tail eagles, in which my opinion (still open ) differs from Harrier's one, is that I find them ugly; it is my own opinion and feeling as I wrote. compared to other well detailed and designed eagles from S&L, yes I find them crude. I also find the Zimmermann pigeon looking eagles head ugly.
Best regards

Wow - nice find Jacques. Is this your first NOK cross?
No Scott, it is the third I got. another one is still in my collection; part of a grouping.

reverse of this very rare cross. It has been awarded only 315 times.
Note as fine the cross and eagles are detailed. the swasticas are sharply cut out.
the bronze colour is typical of this manufacture.

This is a new Honor cross for Next of Kin.
Mounting not original to the cross but just for display.

Hello,
nice ribbons bar. I don't have information about this priest, but concerning the ribbons, I guess it is normal to find the foreign decorations at the end.

Hi,
the cross itself retains all details of an original L/21. The gilding looks good, at least on the pictures.

Hi guys,
thanks for the answer. It is not the same medal, but it looks very close.the design changed but is familiar, and the ribbon's colours are the same except the Bulgarian colours which are now on the right.
In fact, I'm currently in Afghanistan and I just have been awarded with this medal. all is written in syrilic and I can't read it. I'll take pics and them here, with the document.

Just a little update. I just attended the SOS in Louisville, Kentucky (supposedly now the largest show in the world) and made a special point to look at Spanish Crosses. There were quite a few there, with (surprisingly) almost as many good ones as bad ones. There were some exceedingly fine pieces, including at least 4 Gold class ones in very good shape. Only saw (I think) 2 cases (Silver). Prices were not as bad as I feared, but still pretty high. There was a very nice, uncased Next-of-Kin cross being offered for $4500.
There were several "drop-tail" crosses there, but all were fake, with poor eagle detailing, incorrect hinges, pins and catches, and lightweight construction. On most, the eagles were not even soldered to the cross arms, only the swords. Only 2 were being offered as originals, both by dealers whose other inventory was absolute junk. I did not see a single piece which compared favorably in any way to the ones I posted here. This, of course, does not mean that there are real ones, only that IF there are, they are very scarce indeed.
Saw a very few documents, with most being for the Bronze class (although I did see one Silver with swords). Prices were @ $350-750.
So...if you're looking for Spanish Crosses, you can still find them if you're willing to pay for them!
Did you take pictures ?

Jacques, My apologies for using your photo - I have removed it.
A Cruz Blanco ("1st Class") and a Gold Spanish Cross... very interesting. Do you have any evidence of the Cruz Rojo being awarded with a Gold Spanish Cross? Or any period photos of the white-armed version of the Cruz de Guerra being worn by a German veteran?
Hi Scott,
It is not a problem, you can let the picture.
No evidence at the moment for Gold cross + cruz roja
what do you mean by "white-armed version of the Cruz de Guerra" ?
