    1. This photo was taken during the award ceremonie in Hamburg on 31th May, 1939. These guys are in LW uniform because they returned home early, the other recipients are wearing the Legion Condor brown uniform.

Could you identify all of these guys ?

    2. Jacques,

Is that your Medal at the top? How much do these run? Someday I will overtake you in the Spanish stuff race!!!! laugh.gif  laugh.gif

      Best, Sal

Yes, the top medal is mine. This medal is hard to find. I wish you good luck ! It costs around 500? now.

For the race, I'll stop when I got one with diamonds ! jumping.gif

    3. What a stunning document! I want one much more than I want the actuall medal! laugh.gif

      Hi SAL

If you are only stunned by the design of the document, try to find one for the "medalla de la campa?a". All the spansih document have quite the same shape, just written info change (rank, name, medal, date of attribution). that's right that these document are very decorative !

    4. Here is another pic from "Life magazine" showing Hugo Speerle wearing the "Medalla Militar" on the 1939, 6th June Berlin parade day. Note he is dressed with a brown uniform and the spanish army cap. His Spanish cross in gold with diamonds can be seen on his right breast.

    5. I saw this one in a german collection , that do not show the same details as the other one except the MM. the cross is good in my opinion, just another die used by this manufacturer. eagles, pin , hinge are differents.

    6. Jacques,

How is the backwards slash possible? Are the "l" / and number stamped seperatly?

      Best, Sal

Thanks for the pics of the gold one! but the color varies in the pics, more photos please!!! love.gif  jumping.gif

      I can't explain the ""

the following pics are just for you cool.gif

    7. The spanish individual Military Medal is the second highest decoration in Spain. The decoration was awarded to few germans of the Legion Condor during the civil war. An incomplete list does exist but names are lacking. I think that around hundred germans received this order. Most of them were officers, few NCO's, but all got the spanish cross in gold.

This decoration was awarded in Spain directly by General Franco (15) during the Badajas parade. the other were awarded by general von Richthofen before their departure from Spain.

the cross was manufactured by the spanish firm Ega?a, but also by german firms.

It was authorized to be worn on the ribbon bar.

The recipient received a document for that decoration and it was entrered in the individual documents (soldbuch, wehrpass).

    8. Zimmermann of Pforzheim manufactured spanish crosses during the war. This firm made them after the institution of the LDO (1941). The crosses are maker's marked : L/52 in a square, L/52 in a square + silver stamp "900". I own a cross stamped L52, and I can't explain this mistake, except done by a drunk worker.

the cross are in tombac then silvered, gilded or bronzed. the "900" stamped one are of course in massive silver.

It shows typical details on the obverse and reverse.

Eagles: well detailed with 3 cut out branches swas. the eagle head is characteristic and looks like a pigeon.

Swords: the grips are wide and show 9 filaments(twists)

Pin: typical to this maker. wide and flat in the middle, rounded at the end.

Hinge & Hook: half round hook and small cylinder hinge soldered on a wide base

Here is a gold cross, in mint condition (Especially for SAL )

      H: 55.3mm L: 55.4mm W:29.1g
