To tell you the truth - I don`t remember where I got this scan.

Guess this photo was sold at some auction.

Do you have his medal bar?

      Regards,

      Nick

No they went missing in 1986 when my uncle died in the family house in Berlin, along with the spike helmet. My grandfather was born on Sept 17, 1862, in Darmstadt, Hesse. He served in the King of Hesse's Leibgarde-regiments No. 1  most of the photos were taken in Darmstadt. When he got older and went into the reserve, he started working for the German Post office. He was post master at Eydtkunen(today Chernyshevskoye), East Prussia, where he met his wife. The town was a customs stop on the Berlin-Konigsberg-Moscow Rail road line. The nearest "city" was Konigsberg, and that is why the name is on the bottom of the photo you posted. Just before the first World War, he became postmaster of Zehlendorf-Berlin a position he held until death. He got called up during the first World War One and was head of a artillery training base at Darmstadt.  If you ever find out where the photo came from, or anybody else knows, I would be greatful.  cheers, Karl
