    1. Some time ago I got a really rare bird. A collection that was started in the late 40-ties was up for auction. Tons of stuff you normally never see for sale. In one of the auctions a special medal was listed: "Stockholms-Tidningens medalj för svensk flygargärning" ("Stockholms-Tidningen" medal for Swedish flying deed). This is a rare one, awarded 39 times that I know of. To make it even more rare it was awarded to count Carl Gustaf von Rosen! Today the name von Rosen might not ring many bells. But he was well known in Sweden and made plenty of headlines around the world. Check out the short version on wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Gustaf_von_Rosen

Anyway, I placed a bid and figured it would be third or even forth best. Imagine my surprise when I won...

Here are one pic of the medal and another with the award ceremony. The ceremony took place just before he and his Ethiopian pilots flew home with some Swedish planes Ethiopia bought.

    2. A nice thread with lots of history. But no Swedish groups... :speechless1: So here is one of my newer addition to my korean war collection: a Old Comrades Alliance of the Swedish Ambulance Cross of Rememberence and Merit. It was first awarded in 1954 and is pretty hard to find. This is one of two I have seen since collecting medals for some odd twenty years. Not exactly a group but it comes together with the member pin of the society. Probably recycled as the cross center.

    3. There is a new book out on Norwegian decorations: Norske Dekorasjoner; Harald Hallberg; ISBN 978-82-93193-17-3. The ONLY book on all norwegian decorations. Text in norwegian but short summary in english. Your medal Owain is Olav V:s Erindringsmedalje, awarded 1957-91. Produced at the royal mint. The gold (silver gilt) was awarded about 900 people and the silver medal 1300. It's a typical royal medal for palace staff and deserving foreígners. /Kim

    4. It could be Paul. I did a quick look in the old digitalized Swedish newspapers omline. Nothing came up. If I had looked for the life saving medal there would be plenty. The royal family is French and I know Oscar II did visit France at least once a year. However, when he got the medal in question I don't know. Sadly medals and decorations are a very poorly reserched subject here. /Kim

    5. Perhaps not that unkown, as he wrote his name on the photo: Yngve Schröder 1934. I don't have any records that can confirm if he was a military attaché. But I see that he had a knights cross of Polonia Restituta in 1937, then he was a captain not a lieutenant as in the pic. He is wearing a uniform for the "Kungl. Norrlands Artilleriregemente" royal artillery regiment of Norrland.

    6. Well it's not a non-ebay site as it's owned by eBay but still has its old name. 750USD could be a find but for me... yet another collecting field.... no reference books.... no additions in the near future. Also it's free for anybody to bid. So next time PM me and I'll help out with the Swedish registration. ;)

    7. Hi

This recently came up on a Swedish auction site. The auction isn't over yet (three days left). The seller has a lot of other stuff that isn't properly named but this caught my attention. If I'm not mistaken this is a order of the Golden Grain. But the big question is - is it a nice copy or real?

Anyone want the link just PM me. No, I'm not the seller. ;)

    8. I was on a quick visit to the national army museum to catch the exhibit about uniforms before it closes in february. On temporary display are some nice unique pieces among other stuff a uniform that once belonged to the kaiser Wilhelm II.

Sorry about the poor quality pics. Flash photography isn't easy when everything is behind glass..
