Hello Gentlemen
I have some diaries that belonged to M.Schuch 1870's era. All I know is that he held the rank of Oberst-Commandant Des hgl.3.Infanterie-Regiments Prinz Carl Von Bayern. Does anybody know what orders & medals he had received, info on his life in the service. Hope somebody can help, be neat to put the group together again. Thanks Yankee

Hi Red Eagle
Glade to help, no fun to get stuck on a lemon. In the old days when purchasing a gold badge it was more then likely a good bet but now even lower classes in gold are being made today . Luckily for the most part you can tell by hand or 2nd best large quality scans. Good luck

Does anyone know if the " Auslander " foreigner badges were issued also to military? & if so would it have swords and wreath or just trophy?
Thanks Yankee

All those "Silber" marked pieces were recently sold as part of a larger auction. Those pieces are basically collectors copies from the beginning of the 20th century. Some are better made then others but still not made before 1918.
In regards to the piece in Question: I would not want to buy it.
Hi Andreas
Absolutely agree, once had an orginal cased & never had any markings. The reverse was of high quality.

overall = 55.0 X31.5 mm
crown = 25.0 X 22.5 mm
falcon = 18 X25 mm
swords = 35 X 1.5 mm
weight = 17.65 gm
OEK 2335
hope this helps.

Hi Joe
Thanks for that, would that be the same overall size for the White Falcoln with trophy. As I understand prior to 1870 they were issued which might make them smaller, After 1870 swords used instead of trophy & replaced with wreath.
Thanks Yankee

Hello Red Eagle
Unfortunately the Lippe Leopolds are heavily faked especially 3rd model issues. The one shown is certainly a fake the quality is lacking, arms should be purple. There are much better fakes then the one shown which is very dangerous for the collector. Good luck.....

This one is real Gold indeed, and US$ 1,200.- is a normal price I'd actually liked almost to pay, if I had the money.
The first one mounted I've ever seen - great bar, thanks for showing.
I second that, really awesome bar. To see a 3rd class Bavarian Military Merit Order Crown/swords on bar first I've seen of that,

If it is real gold price is OK.
Absolutely agree with you, a silver gilt one value is far less.

No, but its fun to be patient and consult forums like these, kick the tires at shows, and be ready to pay for attributable groups or hand-me-downs from veteran collectors, by which time you will have schooled yourself to see some differences, but continue to take Stogies' words to heart that even he does not have certittude on certain types, so be prepared to pass on pieces until conditions are favourable. Small, well-considered collections--good collections! I own one A-H I really like after 15 years. I've only held three real Bulgarian's in 25 years. I have never trusted Air Gunners until I bought a sweet one from a knowledgeable dude on this thread who deaccessioned his...etc. etc.

Hi John
That is very smart advice you have given me, key is to be patient this I need to remember. It is all to common to jump in without the proper research & books. I can see it would be most preferable to purchase from a knowledgeable collector then through other avenues. Many thanks.
Sincerely
Yankee

Well, you'd be moving into nations with smaller air forces and therefore fewer originals. If Prussian badges are a minefield, then A-H and Bulgaria are one of those floors that slide away until you fall into the piranha tank!

Hi John
Don't want to do that. No fun to have a badge if not knowing it is a good one or not. Really need to think hard Those flying badges are a marvel, certainly are tempting to jump into. I can see why they are highly prized
Many thanks

I thought to collect a few myself, however after reading the posts it is a bit discouraging. It seems to collect the flying badges of Prussia & Bavaria is like walking into a minefield Perhaps I'd be better off in the Austro-Hungarian, Bulgarian arena. Or is that too plagued with fakes.? Thanks for making me aware of the pitfalls on this topic.

If it is real gold price is OK.
Hello Carol l
If it is real gold & the swords turn out to be gold as well, then the price is OK. The swords appear to be gold as well but not certain. Examine the swords carefully and that will give you a definite answer.
All the best

A real beauty, most likely 1900 era, in gold 1st class. The swords I'm not sure of. A very nice find
Good Luck.

Hello
Here is a reduced size of Charles llll. The style of center dates early to mid 19th century. Does anybody know why this badge was designed not having a ball tip? A jewelers mistake maybe, any thoughts would be greatly welcomed.

It is definitely of superior quality! I'm not sure who made it, but enjoy it!
Hi DutchBoy
Thanks for your help, I'll send out a scan of the French made one and that I safely can say know who the maker is, when awarded & to whom.

Yankee,
I'm also not sure if your award is actually silver or just plated silver. Very often, Royal Bulgarian awards only came in solid silver for the top three classes only, the lower ones being made of tombac and are usually quite light in feel. Although, maybe on the earlier pieces they were silver. But if you don't find any mint marks maybe that would be why.
Hello again
There is no hallmark. The enamel is transparent exactly like the Austrian Leopold arms.
