Nice thought, but you do know the "old gentleman", as you call him, managed to lose not just about every war he fought over the course of his long reign, but also his empire, right?

      Kind regards,

       Sandro

Hey Sandro, sure do.  He had a very interesting life, also one filled with tragedy.  Brother shot, Sisi assassinated, Rudolf suicide.  Plus as you said   lost wars and eventually the Empire.

By most accounts however, he was well liked and respected by his subjects.  I do find him an interesting man.

      Best Regards,

    2. Hello all, seeing how this year is the 70th Jubilee for Elizabeth II, I thought it might be nice to pay tribute to a monarch who was on the throne almost as long.

I thought it would be nice to make a display to honor the old gentleman.

    3. Thanks for the info on this medal.  I kind of figured that it was a private issued piece.  Just wasn't sure.  Nice to know about some of these off the grid medals so to speak.

I know that Richard Lussier has a E-Book (for lack of a better term) and it sure is full of great info.  The other book you mentioned is one I'd like to get.....someday!

      Again, thanks for the info.

      Stay well,

    4. Hello all, just so everyone is aware.  I did purchase this bar.  The cost was $100.  So, basically the price of the medals combined.  The dealer I got it from was aware that the bar was put together, and he priced it accordingly.

I'm kind of surprised that no one mentioned that the ribbons of the 1908 Jubilee and the Tyrol Defense are switched around.

Anyway, just my 2c regarding this.

      Best,

Please post a photo of the back of the row of medals that appear to be connected in some manner.

The single wound-medal is nicely aged and shows traces of honest wear, whereas the ribbon from which it hangs looks fresh and unused.  Serious collectors of these medals try to match the level of aging and patina of the ribbon to those of the medal.

Hello, the backing for the Medal Bar was an older piece of cord, that was pretty well shot.  It basically fell apart.  To be honest, I restrung the medals on a pipe cleaner to keep them together.

I know what you mean about the Wound Medal ribbon.  I used the great info you posted on  my question about ribbon originality, and it appears to me that the ribbon  is not modern.  I do think as you suggest that the medal has been added to an unused ribbon.

Thanks so much as always for your input!
