Gents,
I have one too!
A Brunswick native....and i do accept the reasoning that in 1934 when things were tight, the vet would be adding the HK in his own way....
This came with his minatures on a chain and two button hole devices without buttons....
Enjoy

Hi Darrell,
Nice trio!
My thoughts are that the owner mounted these himself and as he had forgotten to snip off some ribbons for the ribbon bar...( and then mount the rosette to that) so he had a leftover rosette, so decided to mount it to the top of the ribbons on the home made bar.
OR, he just had a spare rosette and thoght to sew it to the bar..or risk losing it...( they are quite small and easily lost, one would imagine)
Anyway...if its a good price...snap it up!

Hi Bill,
thanks for your reply.
The cross has the same type of catch that you mention.
the stamping is not as clear as the one you have pictured...very hard to see this one....(needed a magnifying glass....)
the hinge is also further down the arm...( alarm bells=Floch)
BUT...i am going to stay away...
The Gut instinct is always a good thing to rely on... especially with the TR fakes available these days...
Kind regards

Hi Claudio,
I have never seen so many Veterans medals on one bar before!
Thanks for showing!
The missing medal...is it supposed to be just a ribbon? or is the medal just missing?
Kind Regards

Hello Gents,
I have the opportunity to pick up a L15 marked EK1
My Question is the marking...i was led to beleive that the LDO marked their crosses with a forward slash like this...L/15 this one i have looked at...looks good except for this marking...it has just L15...
i tried to do a search here...but the search engine will not work when i put in L15 or L/15
I browsed thru the thread topics and found that L/15 is for the Firm of Otto Schinkel
and there was a thread on 'Floch made L15's. it does look like one of these....it is of three peice construction and looks good in this respect.
Another concern is the pin...the catch is of the crude cut out style...and the makers stamping has made a heavy imprint in the pin so that it has a pimple on the back side from too much force being used to punch the stamp.
the pin is the classic 'Coke bottle' style.
the vendor has had the cross verified by a so called Expert....but my gut instinct tells me it is a floch!
Sorry but no pics in hand...
thanking you in advance
regards
Paul

A couple from me!
Stogieman, a question,...how wide is the ribbon for the Prinzen Centar medaille? as i have a piece 32mm wide...and 180mm long.
And a Happy belated St Pats day from down under! Enjoy that Guinness!

Yes Stogieman,
You are quite correct. We have discussed this bar before on WAF.
It has surfaced again the buyer obviously trying to get rid of it now he has found out that its a made up bar.
I just wanted to get the Gents thinking...and discussing it again...just to sharpen the mind and to show the Gents here, what is out there so they can be aware and not get burnt by this sort of crap.
By the way the seller is asking $325NZD for it...might be worth this for parts....
Kind regards
Paul

Hmmm, Interesting indeed!
A non com EK with a Combattants KVKII from WWII????
and as above...no Hindenberg cross.....very suspicious!
So how could it be possible for a Soldier to NOT be a combattant in the Great War...then be a combattant in the 2nd war??
the mind boggles....

Hi Chris,
yeah..i spotted them and burst out laughing...i mean "really'!
How can a HK be before a Freidrich August cross? and why is the austrian commemorative medal up there?? not to mention the FAM silver and Bronze...way down the line...hee hee
These two are just far too easy to spot...
Cheers

WW1 and WW2 Commonwealth Groupings
in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Posted
An Addendum to my earlier posts in this topic...
Was talking to my elderly Grandfather today...
He was talking about his entitlement to the france and Germany clasp to his Atlantic star...
he told me he really only applied for the clasp much much later after the war...like the 1990's!!!
he had to proove details like the missions flown and the area and all the details of all his operational flights...to show them that he was entitled to the clasp to his Atlantic star.
They told him, it would take 6 months to check it...( it took 3 months) but in hindsight..they must have had to wade thru 50 odd years of records to ascertain that he had done the tours etc.... before awarding him the clasp.
Now that makes sense why his minature medal bar did not have the clsap for years and years...
Pic enclosed...
But he had a funny ( well perhaps it was at the time) anecdote..about the awarding system....
he knew of chaps that had gotten shot down on their first operational flight...and they apparently were not entitled to any medals at all! ....how bizarre is that! ...technically they were in an operational flight with facing the enemy and all (well they had to be...to be shot down,. woudnt one think....?) but according to the awarding criteria....it was not sufficient to be awarded any medals....Crazy! its the least one would expect from a grateful country...for the sacrifices one has given....
But...thats war...
Interesting doncha think...?

Paul
