Good Morning Gents,
I have the possibility of purchasing this tunic.
Heer Unteroffizier piped parade tunic, with the upsidedown collar tress.
Its in pretty good condition.
I want to know what the Esteemed Gentlemen think this tunic is worth....
so i can approach the seller and make a decent offer that he will not sneeze at.
Comments appreciated! thanks!
Best regards

Hi Dave,
Nic Bars!
Thanks for showing!
Now one question...
I have seen a few bars with the single prong for suspending the medal on the reverse...with the medal beign attached from the front.
Why would the Jeweller /assembler leave this pin there and carefully cut a hole for it to poke thru the felt backing...?
Perhaps as a tensioning device for keeping the bars pin closed? hmmmmm....worth thinking about...
Cheers Gents

Hello Gents,
The bar i posted in post #41 has arrived, and i was perusing this thread and noticed that in post #39 there is a Baden War merit cross there with a different ribbon to my one...
Now i was led to understand that these medals were only awarded in Non-combattants guise...
correct me if i am wrong....But what does the other ribbon signify? home service perhaps?
Also the medal itself...there seems to be two variations of this medal.
One is like mine...all Matt grey with a silver center inlay...
I have seen another on this thread that has a goldenish colour....with silver inlay...
Now what gives?? were there different grades of this medal? or is it a jewllers copy that a vet had made?
Thanks for your help gents....its all good knowledge gained!

Paul

I am curious about these bars...and before i leap in at the deep end...i want to learn about these bars.
So i have been looking at one with the Paris and Gravelotte St privat bars but do not want to buy a fakery.
That saxon bar is quite cute! cheers mate!
I am still looking in wonder at the Bar that came this morning...its soo much nicer to behold in the hands!
anyway i will look at more examples of the campaign bars... i will photoshop it a bit more and see if i can get it to show up better........

Nice Bars!
Am contemplating getting a bar like the one above...with two campaign bars on it....
I just love these old ones!

Thanks Paul!
Dave, yes that is Technically right. The Bar itself is not that old...
but it does represent a mans contribution to these wars....over 130 years ago..
I like it anyway

Hello Gents,
Look at what the postman brought this morning!
A beautiful 1866 trio medalbar!
I love these old bars....so much history and over 130 yrs old too!
I wonder of we could pin a thread about medals and Medalbars from the 1800's?
Be a good reference for newbies....
anyway enjoy!

Hello Gents,
i was just browsing through the forums, as one does to gai knowledge.
The Japanese Document above is indeed about Showa.
I have a Japanese Girlfriend and she is in Japan at present.
I sent this document to her and this is what she says it is.......
about the letter, in Japan, we have to take a census ( the state
[condition] of a country) per 4 years..
Japanese and foreing people live in Japan too!!
so this year is a census year in this Oct..
a census taker can get this letter. my mom is a census taker!!
so she has same letter now.!!
showa is the name of an era.. in Japan, it changes by emperor.
now, it's " heisei" !! because showa emperor died 17 years ago..
we have many the name of an ra.. for example, "taisyo" "edo" "heisei"
"showa"..
can you understand? sorry poor my English.
So there you go!
Oh!, and Laurence...post your document that you want transalated and i'll get her to look at it...
Cheers Gents

Thankyou Dave!
Excellent reference indeed.
Are you possibly going to add the service medals to the categories?
I think that this would be most helpful.
Best regards
Paul
Please gents....i need an estimation...negotiations are in place....and i want to get this bar!
But i am not that rich ( or crazy!) i can afford to buy everything in sight...so have to be choosy
and pick up certain ones ( the price is right) rather than everything that i like......
it would be nice...( wishful thinking...)
Many Thanks!

Stogie, what do you mean by MVK3 on a statute?
Rick, thanks for the explanation on the Abbreviations, now i understand how to abbreviate the Swords and the crown.
What does the MVK2X look like?
Well hopefully this bar will be in my Sweaty hands, ( i will wash them first!) soon....just an aside...what you reckon its worth?
More knowledge and understanding gained! makes my day!
Cheers

Yes a Single malt indeed! cannot drink the blended stuff! Ptui....
I may do this.( go for the lot)..but as mentioned earlier...the prices will be driven up....and up....so may push themselves outta my reach...
( Gotta be sensible here)

thanks Gents,
I am starting to really get into these early medalbars....
Just picked up a three place bar, with Konigsgratz cross Centar and 1870-71 medal...no bars tho...
And have picked up single medalbars for the 1870-71 Non combattants war medal, and combattants...
Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Heiko!
I sort of knew thats what it was...
I still want to know what the abbreviation is for it
MVKCX?
The second bar? really? ok cool
I was under the impression that it might be a Bavarian Reservists Medal 2nd class.
But its nice to know that its a peacetime ribbon on the MVK
Thanks again!

Nice Bike!
Like me...u started with not much....and managed to get all the bits you need...
Handy living close to England..eh!
Me...well i had to make alot of parts...could not get them anywhwere...
Or some robber wanted far too much for the parts...
I managed to find a few NOS items, like the crashbars, ( very good, as no scrape marks on them..so they chromed up nicely!) headlight surround...front guard....to name a few things....
I like the special fittings you have used...to make it original! like the bar grips!
I had nothing to go on...no totally original bikes still down this way...UNTIL....
A friend of mine who collects Indians, ( has over 20!) found this one...it was part of a deceased estate...apparently the fellow, bought the bike, after the war..( army surplus) and rode it and had a minor accident, ( Just fell off i think!) and put it in the shed and forgot about it!
Thsi bike was ( and still is) a totally Original bike from the war! and i was able to look at it closely and suss out where all those funny looking bits of metal belonged! wow ! it was amazing! this bike had never had a spanner taken to it!
Paddy still uses it and runs to Akaoroa on it..about a 11/2 hour ride....
Good job done!
Regards from New Zealand.
