Very nice Paul,
Do you know when he fought in North Africa or which battles he was in?
Hi Darrell.
He was in the 6th infantry brigade
I have his records here and it states that he was in Egypt by 30/9/40
reported safe in Egypt 18/5/41
disobedience 14 days CB. 17/6/41 hee hee!
He was Overseas from 27/9/40 to the 12/7/43
My auntie has the 26th battalions Official war record book and i am to inherit it( he is my direct ancestor my fathers father!,and i am the last male in the family line from the first four ships to NZ!) as soon as i can get down south to pick it up. It will tell me exactly where and when he fought.
Cheers

and here is my other Grandfather
Clifford Harry Palmer formerly of 156 Sqn RAF coastal command.
He flew in France and germany and over the bay of biscay.
was awarded the
1939-45 star
Atlantic star with France and Germany bar
Defense medal
War Medal
and finally the RNZAF LSGC medal for 18years undetected crime...
He is still alive and well in Christchurch and is now 83.
He is the secretary for the Brevet club here ( RNZAF old boys) and regularly contributes to the RAF aircrew magazine, 'Intercom'.
He was in the RAF regiment at first then in 1943 when 156 Sqn got the Yankee Liberators he joined and became an AirGunner.
Served in India after the war, and in 1953 came to live in NZ with his family. then took a demotion from Flight sargeant, to start all over again and reached the rank again pretty quick!.
One photo here is of his crew he is the second right at the back.
the other pic, is him receiving his LSGC.
Hope the gents enjoy this little bit of my families history!
best regards

and here is my Great Grandfather!
44059 Pte Leslie Gordon Forbes NZMGC
when i was a silly young lad...i sold his original medals...boohoo!
so all i have is this lot
and the memories from when as a child, i was at his house in Waiau in North Canterbury of NZ, and was
being nosey, as kids are...and in his shed i found the original Vickers machine gun that he had brought back from the war! awesome! it is now in the Waiau Museum.
fancy that! being able to bring it home!
He was famous in the area there for riding an old Indian motorcycle everywhere he went.
Enjoy!

Hello Gents,
Here is my meagre contribution.
My Grandfather. John Edward Denton Pte 26th Battalion NZEF No 12486
was in libya, north africa, egypt, greece, Palestine, Turkey, italy.discharged 18 march 1944.
He had a pretty hot time in Greece, and went through action better than he thought he would...
Been dead since 1986 was a pretty hot rugby player in his time with playing for Canterbury and nearly was an All Black! but the selectors told Nana, he was too much a party boy and liked his beer too much!

One more question for Rick,
I am curious as how you seem to know that it is a Navy bar?
it has this felt backing here
Is this bar traceable?
Many thanks for your help here!

Thanks Gents,
I will begin the hunt for a prussian 25Yr cross.
Stogieman, A gent by the name of Charlie Suggs sold me the bar, go easy on him, he thinks he is Lucky, as he has reached 78 with Triple bypass surgery and hip replacement etc...etc...
The second bar...hmmm, i really dont want to put a Nazi 25Yr on it....
Hmmm, one other thing, the ribbon loks like it was an afterthought, see how it should be under the HK ribbonm, Not on the top....
i will wait till this is in hand before deciding on what to put in the gap.

Thanking you in advance.
Cheers,
Paul.

But certainly a nice find indeed! RFC...wow!
Heres my wee tribute to my Great Grandad

Gents,
Why don't we all ask him a question...and voice our disgust at such barbaric practice!
Hopefully discourage this person from doing this again....
I know its wishful thinking......
Hmmm, i like Dans idea.... kill em all....let God sort em out!!

I agree with Paul.
Brian said it.
Nice pic Marcus!
They serve their purpose i guess, and there just seem to be alot of bars around with these on them, and i love these bars regardless! so the HK is part of it all!

Rick, these widows crosses, now how was this blackening applied?
as i came across one which was parade mounted, and it seemed to be painted..so i thought it was fake and steered away!
so were they painted?

Hello Gents,
I was wondering if there has ever been a thread started where we all got to gether and compiled a list of the different Honour cross maker marks?
Or does anyone know if there is a list of Known makers?
I have several Intersting maker marked medals and wondered about the manufacturers and where they were in germany and what,( if possible) were the numbers of these that were produced.

Hi Chip,
I could well be that there was alot of 'Faller's there in Baden.
I must probe my source for more info on where the document came from...maybe shed more light about him (Faller).
Its nice to have some info on the Gentlemen who won the awards we collect.
I am going to buy a medal to go with it and frame the two together in rimu to hang on the wall for all to see and admire. but will be noting on the reverse that the two did not come together for originalitys sake
I am already in the process of framing two HK docs with parade mount medals both combattant and Non combattants. looking for a widows doc and medal...(these two did came with the medals and are awarded to two separate gents.)
Its my small way to honour these soldiers....and its a good way to display a medal and doc especially if you only have the two items from the one man.( and it keeps them together!!)
Cheers Gents,
Paul.

Thanks Stogie!
Impressive bar nonetheless!

An ordinary veteran's bar with an interesting feature.
in Germany: Imperial: The Orders, Decorations and Medals of The Imperial German States

Valid point Mr Research! indeed.
I too have an EKII that is mounted 'backwards' on a Wurttemberg Trio...
I am going to leave it as it is...as the medal has been sewn onto the ribbon bar by the owner..
so as RR says...sometimes the owners were quirky in their own way...
so as custodians of their medalbars....we must honour their ways...no matter how
un-regulation they were...
Good on you Bob..too! for deciding to leave it as it was....![:)](https://gmic.co.uk/uploads/default_smile.png)
