Hello,
Here is a zinc example that I used to own. I never could guess the maker.

Hi Guys,
Thank you. There is also an eagle and swastika on the conning tower. The little U-boat is made by Arnold.

Close-up of the U-boat.

Here is a photo of the one Joachim Schepke gave out.

Hello folks,
I just bought a real WWII German produced U-boat. It is a little smaller than the standard type which wrecked havoc in the North Atlantic, but it is real just the same.
Don't be too quick to judge my little boat; Joachim Schepke gave one to Horst Plenk who was the son of long distance ski-er Toni Plenk.
Here are the pictures. So what do you think? BTW, the flag on my U-boat was replaced by a tin version made by Elastolin.

Jody

Speaking of which there are two superb books on Das Boot which show the moedls used in the movie ( as well as some interesting shots from the wardrobe department of the grey U-Boat leathers being made up)
"Der Film "Das Boot" which has been around for a while now, and just published,
"Das Boot", auf der suche nach der Crew der U-96" - lots of colour shots in this one.
Both well worth getting. Text is in German but the photos make in well worth while.
Hi Gordon,
Do you have a link where I can get those books? BTW, I hope the guy with the replica will restore it. I would think that would be something a museum would want.

Jody

Hello folks,
I thought you might enjoy reading this and seeing the photos. What a cool thing to find along the side of the road. Just imagine 6,000 pounds. This is neater than the movie which was terrible.

Hi Jody,
How long is the Article. Any chance you could scan that Doc image? Don't know if it's possible... Would it create any legal problems to post.
Appreciate the interest in this badge. I should have picked up the one Jason was selling. I knew I'd regret it later.
Regards,
Mark
Hi Mark,
It is really just pictures. I will try to scan it, but it may not turn out.

Does anyone own any [rare] photos or Award Documents to the Flieger-Erinnerungsabzeichen. I've only seen one elsewhere, but I wonder if they are lurking in the collector's shadows!
Please Post!
Thanks,
Mark
Hi Mark,
The only one I have seen is in Identifying Authentic German WWII Military Items (Collector's Guide Volume III) by Robert McCarthy (1981).
On pages 22-23 Mr. McCarthy shows two versions of the badge, an original case and an award document dated 1. November 1943.

This is one case where I really do think Schwerin were top - the First Pattern E-Boat. Superbly made products and you won't find a much better example than the one you have shown Jody. Lovely !
On the other hand, Schwerin's Second Pattern wasn't much to rave about and finding one with any finish at all is difficult, to say nothing of the hideous bubbling the always suffer. I always thought AS were the finest of the SecondPatterns, though I did see a 100% miont RS that looked superb.
I think though that you have the perfect unasailable combination Jody, minty Schwerin 1st Pattern with minty AS Second Pattern, the dream team.
Hi Gordon,
Thank you. That is what I was looking for with the 2nd pattern. I am still looking for a nice 2nd pattern by Schwerin Berlin, but I have not found one.

Jody

And the 30/40year patina on it makes it real scary. Did it come from Delta International?
Hi Laurence,
I think it was ordered from the back of a comic book (SGT. Rock).

Hello folks,
This fake dates back to the late 60's early 70's. It is a classic, that us kids we used to play war with. BTW, the fake ribbon for this award does not glow.

Jody

Here is my 2nd pattern by AS (I think they made the best 2nd pattern):

Hi folks,
Who doesn't love the E-boat badge (1st or 2nd pattern). I would love to see your examples, so post away.
Here are my two.

Jody

Here is the reverse:

Hi folks,
This badge is actually in an early case, sadly, I could not scan it. I like this badge for it has the indent to the reverse. BTW, this cased set was given to me the parent of an ex-girlfriend. I have always liked this style of badges, I think because of its unique shape and color.
So lets see what is out there.

Jody

Hi folks,
Post your best Coastal Artillery badge. Here is my favorite example, it is hand vaulted and by Schwerin Berlin (they did a terrific job on it). It was captured in Cherbourg.
I would love to see some of yours.
