As a general Rule any of the first pattern Kings Crown with a button stud fixing marked by Gaunts is a copy , On the 2nd pattern by Gaunts, If it has the same pin/hinge fitting as the 3rd pattern it is also a copy, and avoid any 3rd patterns beginning with the 19000 + series
Researching old listings and pictures, I can see examples of second & third pattern badges that don't fail the above advice, but I have not seen an example of the first pattern (showing the crown) that doesn't have a buttonhole style with a Gaunt marking. Has anyone got a picture of and original first pattern, preferably the back of it?
