Where are colonial police medals minted? If not by the Royal Mint, could we potentially see colonial medals bearing the King, before we see them issued in the UK?

Thought this might be of interest?
The new Border Force LSGC was supposed to be, being awarded in the spring of 2023. This has now been delayed until early 2024, as the medals themselves won’t be available until the autumn of 2023. Medal was initially conceived early last year I believe. So assume the current delay is due to the change in effigy? But whether there will in fact be both E11R and C111R versions of this medal remains to be seen.
If I were to hazard a guess. I would suggest that this delay, if due to the re design of this medal. Whether they intend to have a Queen's version or just go straight to King's, would seem the sensible thing to given, that this is in reality, a total new and previously unissued medal.
That being said, the delay could also be due, to the fact that they, intend to produce all the previously issued medals first? To me this would seem the fairest way of doing things?

I would suspect, that every day the Royal Mint dither, the bigger the backlog of medals is getting. Surely by now they should have started striking King's effigy medals?

Don't we all love a W@nker Medal 🤣
Ha,ha,ha but it is interesting how quickly this medal was conceived and produced, whereas there is still no sign of the official one, or even any confirmation as to what the criteria is going to be!

I would suspect, that there is some "woke" reason begin this change, perhaps? People not being numbers or the like......

well i suppose items like vinyl stickers for vehicles etc are ordered as and when needed rather than kept in stock, as apposed to metal insignias.
Yes I would imagine they are. I would also suspect, that they are pretty cheapish to produce?
Although having said that, I hear from a military source, that units within the British army, will begin re badging on the 6th May of those present for the Coronation, and the next day for those not. That is going to be a massive undertaking, I would imagine. I would expect that we will begin to start seeing police badges, with the King's crown within the near future. Whether there will be a mass rebadging mind, I suspect will depend of the force. But as we no longer have a Queen as head of state, I wonder whether there will be any legal requirement, to update such things, before we see some sort of stated case, with some solicitor trying his luck, about an officer not being in the correct uniform or some other such piffle.

Since starting this thread, I have been giving it some thought. There seems to be various rumours pinging about. I'm inclined to lean towards the limited issue option. If we look at it objectively, the Jubilee Medals were just that celebrating the various mile stones in the Queen's reign. A thank you to all those eligible for their service. The Coronation Medal has no such feeling. In my opinion it'll be more geared towards those actually involved. The King is the new kid on the bloke, and at this time in his reign has no real requirement to thank all those who provided loyal service to his late mother. I also feel that the sheer amount of Platinum Jubilee Medals, that appeared on Ebay within days and in some cases pre issue, will not have gone unnoticed. To that end I will be very surprised to lean, it's going to be issued to all those with 5 years service, etc. Nor do I believe it should be issued to all and sundry. But I guess time will tell..........................

Would be interested to hear from Officers would have experienced delays in the issuing of their LSGC’s following qualification. I have heard accounts recently from Officers, who qualified 2+ years ago and are still waiting to receive their medals, despite repeated emails and phone conversations with HR departments.
Is there problem with production at the mint, or is it that the forces aren’t applying for the medals effectively enough?Have to say, I am somewhat disappointed that the Royal Mint are taking so long to produce any new medals. They've had a good five months now, and were certainly quick enough to mint coins bearing his effigy. I see that stamps are also now being released, so there is clearly no issue with regards to what his effigy is going to look like, on such medals.

Honestly surprised that there aren't more examples coming to light, given the amount of officers that surely must meet the criteria. I can only assume that delays at the Royal Mint, or indeed recipients waiting to see what the out come of the King's Coronation Medal, might be a factor.

Throwing a spanner in the works here, but could the white ribbon be a Polar Medal?
I was going to suggest a polar medal. But I'm not sure whether there worn at the end of group. The lack of vicitory medal is easily explained, by that ribbon being on the next row?

There is a thread about this on ARRSE about this, but it does not appear that anyone has been issued any yet?

Would the new "Nuclear Test Veterans" medal , (not sure of what it's official title), not have the King on it? I appreciate that it dates back to the early part of the Queen's reign, but where this will make a difference remains to be seen?

There are all sorts of rumours and conjecture bouncing round the place. But like with the Platinum Jubilee Medal, whomever is responsible for creating the criteria and the medal itself, they continue to play their cards very close to their chests. Which is somewhat frustrating, agreed. But none the less all will be revealed in due course, I am of no doubt.

Given the change over in effigy's to medals, I imagine there will be further delays for the foreseeable future?

All fascinating. I'm just thinking of how many medals will need to be updated on my website, and how long the new versions will start appearing so I can scuttle around begging for images!
Just been tinkering around, came up with this mock up of what the new police long service and good conduct medal could look like (please ignore the £5 bit, but I hope you get the idea).
From a collecting point of view, it would be great if initial issues of the medal, were uncrowned, but then after the coronation they began issuing a crowned version.
What I also find interesting is that upon the changing of effigy from George VI to Elizabeth 11, despite there being an overlapping period, between the queen becoming queen and subsequently being coronated, the medals have always been issued with a crowned effigy.

I would imagine that the Coronation Medal, would bear a crowned effigy. But as to whether this will be the only King Charles medal, to do so remains to be seen.

Interesting. Do Welsh forces not request their police medals via the Welsh Government or does the devolved assembly not have any responsibility for policing.
South Wales would soon get their act together if someone there returned their medal and demanded that it be re-issued with Welsh engraving. I'm surprised that the S. Wales Fed. reps have not bottomed that one.
Dave.
It certainly is puzzling why, the biggest force in Wales doesn't appear to issue out medals in Welsh? Would be curious to know if the other two forces (Dyfed Powys & Gwent), offer this option to their officers, or is it possible that it's only currently North Wales that do? I wonder if there's perhaps some sort of costing implication? Another possibility is that this was first implemented under the former Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom, who I believe was very vocal about the Welsh language, whereas other Chiefs at the time or since, perhaps aren't so. Which leads to another question are such medals in fact unique to North Wales?

I personally think that certainly for the Police it should be every officer of five years by the date of coronation, however I fear they wont do that due to costs.
I would imagine there won't be any further jubilee medals for many years. So maybe they'll do one last mass issue medal?

Has the order of wear for this medal been confirmed yet?
I assume that it can be worn along side previously awarded official medals?
