South African Police Service Canine and Equine Star for Bravery (2004) To be awarded to SAPS dogs and horses for bravery in dangerous circumstances in the line of duty or in protecting or saving life or property. A 9-sided silver-gilt medal depicting the heads of a German Shepherd dog and a horse on a silver nonagon on an 8-pointed star on a laurel wreath (obverse).
    2. South African Police Service Ten Year Loyal Service Medal (2004) For 10 years irreproachable service and exemplary conduct. A 9-sided bronze medal, displaying the secretary-bird crest of the national coat of arms over two sprays of laurel leaves (obverse).
    3. South African Police Service Twenty Year Loyal Service Medal (2004) For 20 years irreproachable service and exemplary conduct.
    4. South African Police Service Thirty Year Loyal Service Medal (2004) For 30 years irreproachable service and exemplary conduct. A 9-sided silver medal displaying an aloe plant on a blue cartouche on an 8-pointed star on a laurel wreath (obverse). Here is the approved medal, as well as the first sample.
    5. South African Police Service Forty Year Loyal Service Medal (2004) For 40 years irreproachable service and exemplary conduct. An octagonal gold medal displaying the SAPS badge on a blue roundel on a 4-pointed star on a laurel wreath (obverse).
    6. South African Police Service Ten Year Anniversary Commemoration Medal Awarded to SAPS members and civilian employees to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the formation of the SAPS. A bronze 10-sided medal displaying the SA coat of arms, crossed flags, and "1995-2005" (obverse) and the SAPS emblem and "South African Police Ten Year Commemoration Medal" (reverse). The first 1000 were manufactured with a slightly different ribbon, than the rest. The top suspender have an opening in the middle, as can be seen on the first 3 pictures. A 100 of each were handed out to the 9 provinces with the other 100 to the SAPS HQ. They were awarded to the top 100 officers in each province and SAPS HQ. I was fortunate to get one myself. The first 1000 were a bit smaller than the rest
    7. South African Police Service Amalgamation Medal (1995) This medal was instituted in commemoration of the foundation of the South African Police Service, which incorporated the South African Police and Police Forces of homeland states (i.e. Ciskei, Transkei, etc). It was conferred upon all members of the South African Police Service who were serving on October 15, 1995. Only a limited amount with the wording Amalgamation Medal on the reverse, were manufactured. The majority have the wording Reconciliation and Amalgamation Medal.

    17. South African Police Service Silver Cross for Bravery (PCFG) (2004) To be awarded for exceptional bravery in very dangerous circumstances, in the line of duty or in protecting or saving life or property. The post-nominal letters is PCFS for silver and not PCFG (gold)

A gold cross pattee with rays and crossed swords between the arms, displaying the SAPS badge (obverse). Variant in silver

Venda National Force Medal for Combating Instituted for award to a person who on or after 13 September 1979: (1) As a member of the Venda National Force or in support of the Force had been involved in combat with terrorists or in the course of performance of duties in connection with the prevention and combating of terrorism, sustained injuries arising from terrorist activities ... or displayed exceptional vigilance, zeal, ingenuity, skill or leadership; or (2) as a member ... performed counter-insurgency duty for at least 90 days ...; or (3) rendered exceptional and outstanding service to the Venda National Force in the combating of terrorism; (4) as a member of the Venda National Force was stationed permanently for a continuous period of at least 12 months in the area and behaved in an exemplary manner. Venda National Force Long Service Medal (10 Years) Instituted for award only to members of the Venda National Force who had served for a period of service of not less than 10 years and had displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct. Instituted in terms of a Warrant signed by President P R Mphephu on 8 February 1985. The idea of using a young baobab tree on the obverse was suggested by President Mphephu himself. General Notice No. 2 in the Republic of Venda Government Gazette, Vol. 13, No. 17 dated 15 March 1985.
    24. Venda National Force Long Service Medal (20 Years) Instituted for award to members of the Venda National Force who had served for a period of service of not less than 20 years and had displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct. Instituted in terms of a Warrant signed by President P R Mphephu on 8 February 1985. General Notice No. 2 in the Republic of Venda Government Gazette, Vol. 13, No. 17 dated 15 March 1985.

Venda National Force Long Service Medal (30 Years) Instituted for award to a person (a) in the discharge of his functions ... rendered service of a particularly meritorious or exemplary nature; or (b) as such a member has, for a period of service of not less than 30 years ... displayed an irreproachable character and exemplary conduct, (c) has rendered service of a particularly meritorious nature to the Venda National Force. Instituted in terms of a Warrant signed by President P R Mphephu on 8 February 1985. General Notice No. 2 in the Republic of Venda Government Gazette, Vol. 13, No. 17 dated 15 March 1985.
