1. ...and why not ???

...is there something happening tomorrow evening that is more important ???

...I would say that after the 'session' that we have got planned...there will be no danger of me being able to find my arse, even with the aid of an atlas....'cos my whole (pun intended!) sense of direction will be completely buggered (another pun!) ....

      ...bring on the quines! :P:speechless:

      ...bring on the Hogmanay !

      :cheers::cheers:

...and maybe one for the road

(still getting over last nights 'practice' run)

    2. EDIT : TOPIC HEADER SHOULD READ = GRANDFATHER UNIFORM....(not Great-grandfather!)

      Hi,

As part of an ongoing 'family-tree' history project, we have this photo of my wife's grandfather (on her mother's side)...he fought in WW1...joining up as an underage soldier...

We are trying to identify his regiment, so if someone with the knowledge of identifying unit insignia would please have a look....

It looks like there are two types of cap badge being worn...

I have no idea if this photo is actually WW1 era, or post WW1...'grandfather' is sitting in front row, second from right...

      Many thanks!

    3. Hi,

As part of an ongoing 'family-tree' project, my wife's grandfather (on fathers side) was awarded the following four medals....which I guess are all 'I was there' type of medals....(and I sincerely don't mean that in a negative way)....

...he was a supply driver, or something along those lines, came of the beach at Dunkirk, remembers being ordered to drive his truck off the cliffs to wreck them, saw his best friend from childhood die next to him, killed by the straffing Luftwaffe...

'Grandfather' passed away many years ago, so we're trying to piece together history...

The first two I sort of recognise...purely from having read Commando comics years ago....they always had a little bit of history printed on the inside cover...descriptions of weapons, medals, uniforms, etc....come on, I'm sure we've all read them !

Please, just a quick explanation for each would be most helpful so we can use that information in the 'family-tree' research...

      Many thanks...

    4. ...not too long ago, I posted a particularly 'ordinary' looking SA tinnie (ahem!)...

      "SA Brigade 34, Chemnitz 1935"

...here is said tinnie again...matched with a photo of a SA Pioneer 'musiker'....according to a good friend who knows his SA history inside and out...this man's unit was part of SA Brigade 34...

      .

...and what makes this photo even more special (apart from the fact it's a rare image of a SA Pioneer 'musiker')...is that if you look very closely at his uniform, you will notice the top of half of this very tinnie!....dating the photo to at least sometime in 1935...

      .

...how I dearly wish the portrait photo was just a couple of inches lower...then we could have seen the entire tinnie in all its glory!...
