 Wow....nice engraved EKs naoki matsumoto. However, they are hard to read. Can you lift the pins or read the engraving for us? -please. I really like the flieger one  -naturally. Do you know anything about the recipient?

      Hi,OK.

      Please watch

    2. The tsuka (handle) quite often, if not always, had menuki (ornaments) between the ito (braid) and the same (rayskin) to allow for a better grip on the handle. If you have ever used a katan you will know how much these little menuki help the swordman's grip.

This particiular katana has menuli of a cherry blossom and leaves design.

The kashira (buttcasp) is also visable and have no ornamentation.

Hi,This Nihon-tou is late of EDO?

      Menuki is ..?

      maker's name worte?

    5. Thanks for the reply Richard. I agree, its a bronze.

After a few days checking the forums, I just found out that it would seem that this is an unmarked L/18 B.H. Mayer (not so easy to find illustrations of this maker), so I presume private purchase piece.

There was a silver L/18 on Detlev's update yesterday and the reverse of one shown by Jaques (I was hoping for him to put an oar in here) on WA some time ago. Still it would be nice to get this confirmed to put me completely at ease.

      Regards,

      Pete

I am busy packing my things to return to the U.S. and thought I would take a picture of my EK collection, which includes EKI cased and Screwbacks, EKIIs, Schinkels, Round 3, and EKI and EKII spanges and other related EK items. In this collection I have a rare EKI envelope by Deumer (I was told that there are only five known). The cased EKII are marked L/11 both on box and cross. Jim
