I'm with you BJOW, on the description! I would imagine you would have to be working with them to qualify. I'm sure someone will get one.....

Welcome Masarobo,
Fascinating subject. There is very little published about this 'forgotten' conflict. I've also heard that many police officers were pretty much soldiers out there. I would love to hear more.

Barney & Paul,
Geat posts, and fascinating information. I can't believe that you could sign up for 3 years or the 'duration'!
Imagine that today, I enlist for Iraq, for the duration! Times have changed. I'm still unsure why they were labelled 'Service Batttalions' , though. Why weren't thet just called 9th Battalion The Essex Regiment ,though?

I'm not sure that its a NATO job thoguh....

I always thought the term 'veteran' meant someone with long combat experience. It seems to have been manipulated by the media to include anyone with military experience whom they can write a story about. Maybe Pikemedals could help on this one ( sorry mate, you re very knowledgeabul!)

Hi Paul,
Glad to be of service. I'm going to see if I can find where I saw it. It may have been a DNW/ SPINK etc, so I can hopefully provide solid evidence.
I have certainly never heard of one with a bar.
I would certainly appreciate a copy of the 1902 Role.

Has anyone else seen the Silver 1887 + bar, Met Police Jubilee on Ebay? The medal is named to PC Snell 3rd Divn. I've seen this before , and it wasn't silver.... and the fact that there was only a small amount of these medals given out and always to Senior Ranks.... beware!

Barney,
Cracking post as ever. There are a few Military Graves in the Cemetary on the Sewardstown Rd at Waltham Abbey that may interest you. I haven't the time to look into them. They are;-

Evening Chaps,
I must admit, I think it goes on its own piece of dark blue ribbon, and this is because I saw a group of 3 or 4 with the laurel leaves mountd on the end as mentioned. It was to a man who got it for defusing the ejector seat of a crashed harrier , which took over an hour, whilst the wreckage was still on fire, to recover the pilot's body.
I must admit , it looked like a medal was missing.... it looked awful, but I did hear of a chap who wore his on the campaign ribbon , during which the leaves were awarded. animal0 -
I agree, but if its at auction and I get the time to do it, I always research what I can. It has saved me loads. I'm very careful now, what I put my money into.I've also got the Boer War Casualty Roll. I got it as a present, and its saved me a fortune. " Boer War KIA " my arse... usually Died of Disease ! And thats not only Ebay.

BJOW,
There are a number of helmet plates on "speedbid", that may interest you.

I finally saw them in the Thames the other day. A yellow one and a Green one. They were bloody low in the water, and when a barge passed the green one, it was pretty well thrown around. I thought it would sink. Wouldn't catch me in one!

Cripes , I 'll brush more often now.... Did you get his 1887?

Yes,
I have had considerable problems getting info on people of this generation and anybody else within 70 years of their death.I now don't touch them.
Bon Chance !

Welcome dimdem,
Who would be stupid enough to buy a 'pig in a bag' without first looking at it? And how would you stop the cat from making meow noises?
The Royal Navy , I believe was the only Navy to flog its naughty sailors.
Perhaps 'Firfly' can help us on this one.
