Greeting to all, My Wife's Grand Father was a American Vet of the "Great War", but he would not talk about the war in the 70's and I had just returned from Vietnam from my second tour of duty. Sadly he passed soon after and never did speak about the war.

I agree, we had lots of beer in rusting cans, but the water supplied by the Engineers was slightly green and Kool-Aid killed the taste. But of course, I am referring to the R.V.N. Regards, Oiva

Let us not forget that the Finnish had skulls and bone on their helmets during the Winter War and Continuation War.

Members and Guests, I always felt save when I was in a area with ROC troops. Iremember when we had engine trouble a night and we were going to spend the night flanking the 3/4 ton with two M-60S, one M-79, three M-14s, and my 45. At about 0200 hrs. a Korean patrol showed up and we were towed into their base camp. I saluted the ROC Captain, who smiled and returned the salute. We spent the night and made contact with with my unit at Phan Rang and were back on the road the next day. Also it is interesting that the USA did not equipt the with newer weapons. The ROCs were using M-1 carbines and the 1919 Browning MGS. Regards,Oiva

Most Sad and a horror, I pray all are well. Our home in Brookings Oregon overlooks the harbour and the surges did do damage to several boats and piers. Four idiots were taking photos of the first surge and got sweept out,but the itdiots were saved. Regards, Oiva

Gents; I well remember the switch over of the MPC notes in 1968. I had the misfortuntion of being the Pay Office of my Company, being the new " butter bar" , who was give that additional duty! The Viet barber was trying to get G.I.s to switch over a hugh amount of the now invalid MPC notes for a cut, but was caught by me and my assistant. So much for the blackmarket profits. A interesting note is that merchant seamen were paid in greenbacks and there was a hugh illegal market for them. Regards, Oiva

A very nice display. I carried a HSc in the RVN for two tours. The Mauser was not blued and had a pig skin clip holster. I found the pistol one morning after a firefight and was checking bodies for intel like a good stupid butter bar was told to do. I was able to to smuggle the little gem back and forth and still use it for home protection.

Captain:A most interesting historial account and it was nice to read about my old hometown. My father was sent to Eureka with the 107th Horse Cav. reg. in 1942, I believe that date is correct. He was a Finn from Michigan and the family stayed in that area untill 1959. Regard, Oiva

I remember when I came back from the R.V.N. the first time and was stopped by two "Monkey Patrol" types.I was a O-2 and they were E-4 and had not been across the pond yet! I was questioned why I had my khaki pants bloused in my jungle boots, since I was not airborne. I replied that my low quarters had been destroyed and had not been able to obtain new ones. They wanted to make a federal case out of this infration inside of the airport in San Francisco and I requested to speak their O.I.C and that ended this story and my respect for these type of military S.O.B.s.
