    1. New World, it is HIS decoration. Tsarenko was awarded this in 1995 for saving a classroom of young children from a terrorist bomb. He was also awarded the Russian Order for Courage!
    2. Maxim, where are the pictures of the Ukrainian Star? :Cat-Scratch:
    3. I just found an article on you! You also received the Ukrainian Star For Courage (serial no. 002)!!! Which grade was it?? 1st, 2nd, 3rd?
    4. You lost a hand and an eye saving the life on young children from a terrorist bombing? WOW! Stop being so modest! You are a hero in EVERY sense of the word!! Presidential Decree of 07.02.1996 N 163 "On conferring state awards of the Russian Federation" ORDER OF COURAGE TSARENKO Maxim Vladimirovich, a student of Vinnytsia State Pedagogical Institute, Ukraine. I salute you my friend!
    5. My next question is: since you're in the Ukraine, how come you received a Russian award?
    6. Really?? I want to see pictures of you receiving it!! I want to read the write up!! I want to see the award document!! It is a high award!! Worthy recipients are usually too modest! Be proud!
    7. ADDENDA: The Order of Lenin was awarded to civilians for outstanding services rendered to the State, to members of the armed forces for exemplary service, to those who promoted friendship and cooperation between peoples and in strengthening peace, and for other meritorious services to the Soviet state and society. The only modern Russian award that comes close to it is the Order of St Andrew the Apostle. The Order Of Saint Andrew is the highest military and civilian order of Russia. It is awarded for "exceptional services leading to the prosperity and glory of Russia". Tsarenko, my friend, I give you the point here... After a careful review of the award criteria of all of the top Soviet and modern Russian awards, you are correct. The Soviet equivalent of the Russian Federation's Order of Valour is the Order of the Red Banner.
    8. Yes, and that distinction is quite alive today, not only in Russia but in a great many other countries as well. Orders Decorations Medals In modern Russia the order is: Titles (Hero of the Russian Federation, Honoured Scientist of the RF, Honoured Military Pilot of the RF, etc) Orders (Order of Valour, Order of Kutuzov , Order of St George, Order of Suvorov, etc) Decorations (Cross of St George, Medal of Nesterov, Medal of Suvorov, Life Saving Medal, Medal for Bravery, etc) Medals (campaign, long service, efficiency, commemoratives, etc) The Order of St George, as stated above if for senior officers for leading brilliant and successful military operations in the defense of Russia, it is not a bravery award. The Cross of St George is awarded to soldiers, sailors, non-commissioned officers, warrant officers and junior officers for acts of courage, self sacrifice and distinction in battle to protect the homerland from attack. A senior officer beind awarded a decoration for valour/courage would receive the Order of Courage, or, in the case it wasn't quite warranted, the Order of MIlitary Merit.
    9. The Crosses of St George are not Orders and in my humble opinion, they replace the 3 grades of the Order of Glory. They are way below the Order of Valour in the order of precedense of the Russian Federation being classed as decorations which by definition, come after Orders.
    10. The Order of St George (all 4 grades) can only be bestowed upon senior officers. It is awarded for leading brilliant and successful military operations in the defense of Russia, it is not a bravery award. Link to the award write up
    11. Tsarenko, the Order of Valour is the top bravery award... How can it NOT rate equal to the Order of Lenin?
    12. Tsarenko, do they still wear these same cap devices?
    13. Award document for the Decoration for Service EMERCOM Aviation .
    14. The first pictures of the Decoration for Service EMERCOM Aviation (courtesy of Yuri Sominskii).
    15. Decoration for Service EMERCOM Aviation Instituted by ministerial order 620 of December 6, 2010. Awarded to serving personnel and veterans of the aviation department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia with at least 10 years of service within the ministry, for significant contributions to the creation and development of aviation resources and procedures; can also be awarded to workers of the aviation industry, members of academic and research institutions and other persons assisting in the development of aviation and aerial support in rescue operations, for helping in solving the problems and carrying out the tasks faced by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.
    16. Medal for Diligence Instituted by ministerial order 620 of December 6, 2010. Awarded to personnel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, who take part in the daily management of the unified state system for the prevention and liquidation of emergency situations (hereinafter - RSHS), to staff members of on site centers and command and control facilities, and to citizens of the Russian Federation, for diligence in planning the actions of the managerial bodies and forces of RSHS, for preparing and overseeing their activities, for the development of proposals aimed at the implementation of state policies on the prevention and liquidation of emergency situations, for significant contributions to the development of crisis management centers at all levels; for the effective exchange of operational information in emergency situations in Russia and abroad, for promoting the establishment of the authority and prestige of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia at the international level.
    17. Three new awards have recently been authorised by the Minister for Emergency Situations and Civil Defence. Below are the 3 awards with their write-ups. I hope to soon find adequate pictures to complement this thread. Decoration for Distinction Instituted by ministerial order 620 of December 6, 2010. Awarded to personnel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia who take part in the daily management of the unified state system for the prevention and liquidation of emergency situations (hereinafter – RSHS), to staff members of on site centers and command and control facilities, and to citizens of the Russian Federation for exemplary performance of duties in carrying out preventive activities and emergency situations within these control centers, for significant contribution to the organization and development of interagency cooperation, for active participation in the activities of the effective exchange of operational information for the prevention of, and management of emergency situations and disasters in the Russian Federation and abroad.
    18. These are the Federal Border Service (1994-2003) cap eagle and cockade. The service, although amalgamated into the FSB in 2003 seems to have retained these items. Every picture I've found to date shows border guards still wearing these instead of the FSB (military) cockade and piping. Can anybody confirm this?
    19. It would have to be... The GVI CD was only awarded for a short while. It is impossible for anybody to have received a CD bar with a King's crown. I've seen many vets with service overlapping the previous (British) LSGC awards and the C.D., they wore the older medals and received the C.D. 12 years after the award of the last LSGC medal or bar to it.
    20. Just a shot in the dark here, but based on the medals and his rank, concentrate on the RCAF. I'd say the odds are very good he was an aircraft mechanic or some other ground pounder type.
    21. Thanks for the link!
    22. Unfortunately, Mathomhaus is correct. These modern "things" are all over the place... Some have the bust of Nicholas II, some of Catherine the Great, some of generals or admirals like Kutuzov. All are borderline worthless...
    23. Oh my! Veteran's right! Good catch! With the out of focus picture I just went by the ribbon which as he so correctly points out, is incorrect. This is your medal with proper ribbon. It is an official medal for the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71. The clasp ENGAGÉ VOLONTAIRE stands for VOLUNTEER ENLISTEE.
    24. Thanks for the info, looks pretty nice.
    25. Gunner's correct. It is called the "Médaille des engagés volontaires" (medal for volunteer enlistees).
