    11. Mackay saw service in the Anglo-Boer War, 1906 Rebellion and with the Second South African Infantry Regiment in France. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal as a member of the 3rd SAMR.
    12. Reverse of the Order. No makers mark are evident, the stamp or engraving on the medal is "SILVER".
    13. This Order is awarded to commands, units or branches and not to individual members of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). It is awarded for varied achievements over a period of time or for a specific single act or deed in the military fields for activities that positively contribute and/or result in the progression and development of the SAF. This Order is intended to create healthy competition and esprit d' corps within the SAF.

    18. Distinguished Service Medal named to Second Lieutenant Talat Mohamed Farid of what appears to be the Eastern Arab Corps.
    19. This is a recent purchase of a very different group of medals that was found in the Sudan. The group includes the Governor General's General Service Medal of 1933, the Sudanese Distinguished Service Order and a NAMED Governor General's Distinguished Service Medal.

Hi Brian, According to the 1971 edition of "BRITISH BATTLES AND MEDALS", the latest edition is back home in South Africa, the 13th Sudanese Infantry was involved in some of the many battles leading to Kitchener's reconquest of the Sudan. Members of the unit were entitled to the Khedive's Sudan Medal, 1896 to 1908, with clasps for "FIRKET, HAFIR, SUDAN 1897, THE ATBARA, KHARTOUM, GEDID". Regards, Will
    21. They were very prominent on the East Rand and were led by former Anglo-Boer War and WW1 Boer commanders like General Van Deventer who died soon after the strike.
