Hi Chris,
It is amazing the amount of items that surface after spending a few years and creating a network here.
Getting customs clearance is a story on its own!

PARTICIPANTS IN THE BATTLE OF OMDURMAN
I reframed this collection of badges a few months ago. Some of the Sudanese badges were probably issued and worn at a later stage but I have used them to represent and symbolise the Sudanese contribution to the Battle.

SOME PERIOD DE-ACTIVATED FIREARMS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN USED DURING THE VARIOUS SUDANESE CAMPAIGNS.
The breast plate was purchased by myself in the Omdurman Souk or Market.

I still require the clasps for Gedaref, Bahr-el Ghazal 1900-2, Jerok and Katfia to complete my collection of the 15 various clasps.

My forum friend mark has been instrumental in providing a good amount of insight and assistance in identifying some of the recipients.

Hi Chris,
Any chance of posting more?
There are some good photographs available at the Museum in Bloemfontein which I have digital copies of.
I will request their permission to post them.

Will

Norman, thanks for the tip.
Regards
Brett
I managed to page through my copy during my very short sojourne while passing through South Africa last week.
It is an excellent product and worth the effort of obtaining a copy.
It will be quoted as a reference book for some time to come!

Will - welcome back, hope everything is well. Stuart Bates has been trying to get in touch with you.
This is an incredibly rare uniform and to have it so complete is really great. One query - Owen shows the white constables cap badge as brass and the african constables as white metal - not sure from the photo which material this is made from ?
Best. Mervyn
Hi Mervyn,
Thanks, we have touched base.
All the metal items on the uniform are made from brass.
Regards,
Will

The tunic was made from dark serge wool and is edged all around with black mohair braid. It fastens down the front with hooks and eyes. The epaullettes and collar are also edged with the same braid. On the right of the tunic collar are the brass letters "ZAR" which stood for the Transvaal Republic (as previously stated).
