Kevin,
It can't get any better than that, the man's EK.2 award document and the explanation / reason to it.
Best regards

Andy,
Could be a U-Boat tradition badge, but I couldn't find an exact match in the H?gel book. Here is a well-known photo of Werner Hartmann and some U-37 crew. Note that the trident does not have the same "bend" as yours.
Best Regards,
Erik
Sorry Erik but that photo doesn't show U-37.
It shows U-198 after the return of her first warpatrol.
Left to right : Li. Wessels, Kmdt. Hartmann and Bordarzt Dr. Woerne.

I think that was the first trip for them.

Your man Grubert made two warpatrols on U-259.

Many thanks
giorgio
Although I never see a reply from you back after an answer, I will help you with your question.
Good original document and signature, from what I can see of that part.
Signed by Hans Cohausz, Fregattenkapit?n, Chef 11.U-Flottille.

U 219 left Bordeaux under the command of Walter Burghagen on 23rd Aug 1944 and after more than fifteen weeks arrived at Batavia on 11th Dec 1944. U 219 was a late monsun-boat!
But Mechanikerobergefreite Helber must leave the boat before and goes to the u-boat school in Pl?n.
There he was awarded at the 9. Nov. 1944 with the "U-Boots-Frontspange in Bronze". Interesting is, that Helber never get the EK 1 or EK 2 befor he get the u-boat clasp!
Hi Monsun,
Thank you for showing us another interesting group from your collection !
