    1. Hello Chris

That's very useful and interesting information. I've always been led to believe that the only ones without veins are the 1st and intermediate type spanges. So as long as everything else matches, then a Mayer without veins is ok. I wonder if other makers also did these without veins?

In answer to your question, the following makers made EKII spanges without veins: L/18, L/53 and L/56. In the EKI spanges only Mayer made them. Jim

    2. Your spange looks like a cast copy of a Mayer, look at the feet and notice the lack of detail. Now look around the body and you will see what appears to be excess metal, plus the pitting in the medal itself.

      Mayer made the following types:

EKI - Long veins, short viens and no viens

EKII - Veing and no veins.

Here is a picture of mine with viens.

    3. Hi Gents

Does anyone recognize this model of Spange? I'm about 90% sure that it's a good one BUT, I can't match up the talons from any listed on the forums & the wreath bothers me a little.

      Any ideas guys.

      Chris

      Hi Chris

It is an L/18 Spange, but I don't like it as it is very soft on details. Can you see a maker's mark on the back? Or get a picture of the back? Jim

    4. Nice display you have there Jim!

May I ask you...how did you figure out attaching medals with ribbon to the display case? Did you use pins or did you sew them? I'm just creating my own display case and looking for a harmless method of attaching the medals. I found two problems with pins and sewing - pins allow me to move the medal whenever I want to but are damaging the ribbon leaving a permanent hole. Sewing with a transparent thread attaches all the medals firmly but changing their position afterwards is hell not talking about 4-5 permanent holes in the ribbon.

Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!

I haven't attached anything. All of my displays are lay down type. I have contemplated what to do to keep them from moving, but don't have an answer yet. When I get back to the states and more time I will take a serious look at it then. Jim
