I am trying to carry out some research into the Baden 170 Infantry regiment in the Great war having just purchased a medal to a soldier from this unit for my collection. I know they were part of 52nd Infantry Division and they fought on the Somme in 1916. Can anyone give me any more details of this unit and where they fought please? There seems to be little on the net about this unit or Division which I understand was highly rated.
Many thanks

Bison,
Many thanks for your comment. Unfortunately the Crimea came away from its fixing in the case during transport from France. The medal ribbon is now like paper and has been difficult to remount. However, i have kept it with the original ribbon as it should be.The case itself is beautiful with the original bevelled glass
Regards
Jim

Hi,
I am seeking any information someone may have on the following man
Walther Christian Gottfried Bormann.
Walther was born on 16th March 1880 and served as a Chaplain and stretcher bearer in the Great War , being awarded the EK 1st class .
The only tinformation I have is is that he was born in Robel district where his father was a Pastor, August Borrmann born 04.06.1862 in Ned Teschen district, His mother was Margarethe Borrmann nee Klapp born 19.1.1867 in Berant or Beraut district. His younger brother was Martin A Borrmann.
Can anyone give me any information as to when he was awarded the EK and with whom he served. I know its a long shot but any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
I am trying to find out some information on a Knights Cross winner, Feldwebel Ludwig Bauer of the 117 Grenadier Regiment, 98th Infantry Division who won his Knights Cross for actions south of Rimini , Italy in September 1944. I understand he was awarded this medal for actions around the village of Il Palazzo between 5th and 7th September. He was later wounded and died 26th October 1944 and is buried at Fula Pass.
I am trying find out exactly what Ludwigs actions were during the fighting. I have traced him on the net but although there is a photo of him the information does not go into detail. Can anyone help me with this mans actions or the actions of his Regiment and Division between 5th and 7th September 1944. Italy is not a theatre I know much about.
Thanks
Jim.

Nice badge Stan. The pin on the later awards is much more substantial. When you look at the back of mine you can understand why so many pins were broken.

I think these French Colonial troops of WW1 were brilliant soldiers. What a weapon the Coupe Coupe is !!!
It is also important not to forget how these guys must have suffered with the northern French climate compared to their own!!!
Thanks for showing it

Thanks for the information on the CDG. I have quite a collection on these medals along with the diplomas. I think they are a most under rated medal.

Well, it tells you how rare these awards are after waiting two years for a reply. The Battle of Coburg is one of my passions and here's a little collage of my Coburg collection including my 1st type badge.
Nice to see we are using the same forums Erich

Hi,
I`ve just purchased an interesting Iron Cross 1st class and silver cup awarded to the same man.
The Iron cross has the following inscrpition engraved on the rear of the award
SCHULZ-DORNBURG
AUS DER HAND KAISER WILHELM II
FLANDERSCHLACHT 25/8/17
I realise this was awarded during 3rd Ypres by the Kaiser himself, but is there any way of tracing the recipient of this award and his unit? I would love to be able to trace this man across his time in the Great War
The cup again bears the mans name in signature form with a small EK1 soldered to it.
Any advice as to where to start in tracing this man,I would be grateful.I`ve traced British and French soldiers, but am lost with German troops
Thanks
Jim
