I have a similar one in my collection, it’s a Royal Parks Constabulary version and it was fondly known as the “Bottle top” it was worn on the flat cap, which was all they were issued at the time. 

They were eventually issued a six panneled custodian helmet with a ball and spike top.

I’ll see if I can dig it out and post a photo of the bottle top. 

Nothing new there then, history continues to repeat itself. I’m sure if you spoke to many serving officers, they’d have gripes about some of the kit issued to them now 

Still it really is in lovely condition & nice to see something different in a collection. Thank you.

Thanks for the info, yes there is conflicting figures. Some say 119 some say 109.

Certainly when I was in the RPC we had 127 officers around 12 years ago.

Still waiting for updates into this officers history, I haven't forgotten!

An ex-RPC officer currently serving in the MPS has been researching the RPC past for as long as I've been in service, so I am really looking forward to more info.

Hopefully so, I guess I am quite fortunate to have friends still working in the Parks with access to information.

The particular officer giving me this information will have just under 40 years Police service by the time he retires in 2012.....Royal Parks Keeper, Metropolitan Police Special, Royal Parks Constabulary, Metropolitan Police Royal Parks OCU officer.

Thank you for the information, I only wish I could get my grubby mitts on some others.

I've had a brief e-mail from a friend of mine regarding Burrows medal and he will be calling me tomorrow with some of the information.

However what he has said is that Burrows wife was convicted of theft in 1909 and was given 9 months with hard labour!!!

I'm looking forward to finding out as much as I can about Burrows.

Having trained originally at Ashford PTC, it was always easy to spot the Hants officer....they were often nicknamed satellite dishes due to the size of the plate on their helmet.

That said, its a pretty spectacular plate and I guess nice to be a little different from the crowd.

Although I have been a member here for some time, I've never really posted as I didn't believe I had any knowledge to impart.

However I've been reading this forum with interest and I must say, you are all some very clued up individuals and the knowledge base here is great!

I hope that over the next few months I will be able to share some of my varied collection of mainly British Police items.

I thought it was only fair that I posted some photos of my most treasured medal in my collection, I'm a bit of a techno fool so I hope this works!

The medal is engraved to J. Burrows and I have just set a task for an ex colleague of mine working in the Royal Parks to find out some information about the person who was awarded this medal.

I would love to locate more of these medals, but this is the only one I've ever seen.

Odin, due to your post I now know that this medal belonged to a London officer...like myself.

By the way although the name above is the Gentleman's Military Interest Club......I am a female member, not a very PC one either

I wonder if any members have in their collection a Silver Token, such as those given to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and whether you have any photos of the said item?

I've collected a variety of items related to the Police in my time, but one thing I've never seen is a silver token!

Couple of Badges worn by UK Police and Prisons staff in Iraq

I've been trying to get a UK Police Patch for ages, but they are like rocking horse teeth!

I was however lucky enough to be given a IP - Iraqi Police one from a friend who was on patrol out there when the conflict started.

Police Swords,

Hanger/Cutlass type were issued to Thames division initially.

However officers who worked in a particularly dangerous area were entitled to request extra protection in the form of a sword.

There is an early print dipicting police carrying out sword drill in Wellington Barracks St James Park London.

Most swords will be marked, however those that are not should not be ignored as they are likely to have originated from Prison, HM Customs and smaller constabularys......

Many marks are hidden under the hand guard by the hilt so look closely...if you are fortunate enough to come across those which have decorated blades then you are a lucky so and so.

The main difference with the swords are usually the grips, some have fish skin, some have fish skin with wire wound around them and others have a brass handle.
