    1. According to Dr. Battushig's book, this was only awarded once- to Leonid Brezhnev! I would definitely have this authenticated if you are sure of it; I'm a bit skeptical. If you want the e-mail address of an expert on the subject, PM me.

According to the book of Battushig it has been made two identical medals. With the first medal have awarded L.I.Brezhnev in 1974.

It is the second medal. I am the good expert in the Mongolian awards. But with pleasure has consulted at your expert. Please send me its e-mail in PM.

    2. Update on typology and serial number ranges. The confusion thrives.

Type 1 (Screwback; МОНДВОР mintmark; long oval design with two red banners, ~300 awarded) - Low = 316/High = 792

      Type 2.1 (Screwback; upward-curved МОНЕТНЫЙ ДВОР mintmark; Uighur; SN at 6 o'clock near bottom) - Low = 9/High = 2831

Type 2.2 (Screwback; downward-curved МОНЕТНЫЙ ДВОР mintmark; Uighur; SN directly below screwpost) - Low = 1151/

      High = 2878

      Type 2.3 (Screwback; no mintmark; Uighur; SN at 7 o'clock) - Low = 1562/High = ????

      Type 2.4 (Screwback; hand-engraved МОНЕТНЫЙ ДВОР mintmark; Uighur; SN at 6 o'clock near bottom) - Low = 1710/High = 1776

      Type 3.1 (Screwback; Cyrillic; slightly concave reverse; SN at 7 o'clock) - Low = 2/High = 6952

Type 3.2 (Screwback; Cyrillic; flat reverse; SN directly below screwpost) - Low = 5094/High = 9941

      Type 3.3 (Screwback; Cyrillic; flat reverse; SN at 6 o'clock) - Low = 10007/High = 15000

      Type 4.1 (Pinback, silver) - Low = 15015/High = 30426

      Type 4.2 (pinback, bronze) - Low = 31650/High = 39785

Type 4.3 (pinback, bronze, no serial number, unawarded escapee?)

    3. And another one, a documented group of badges belonging to an Honorary Contruction worker (welder) Yondon Tovuu.

Alexei mentions his bio is published in the Mongolian Directory on Heroes of MPR, Labor Heroes and People's and Merited Title holders so will have to look that up later. Maybe somebody can help translate. The group includes:

      - Outstanding Construction Worker of Mongolia Badge (NB mentions quite some detail: made of German silver, goldplating and enamels. Hungarian manufacture) which comes with a blue hard cover document hand signed by Minister of Construction of Mongolia Mr. Pleihan. Awarded in 1976

      - Badge for 60th Anniversary of Mongolian Construction Sector. Made of brass and red enamel. Awarded in 1986. Comes with a paper back document with an original ink stamp of the Ministry of Construction.

      - Badge for Leadership in Socialist Competition of the 5 Year Plan. Awarded to in 1974. Comes with a paper back document bearing an original ink stamp on the Ministry of Construction, signed by the Minister.

    4. Fair enough (again), but place names -- like personal names -- should escape mechanical and literal translation. Would we really want to talk about the "Order of Ax Hero"?!

"NALAIKH" - This small city is in 30 km from Ulan Bator on the east. Earlier there there were Soviet armies.

I think that 2nd badge is devoted 40 years Ten years' school in Nalajhe.

    5. "Nalaikh" means to be quiet, calm or at peace....

"Jil" means years....so 10 or 40 years or something... but I haven't found the badge yet.....

It's a NIB but I get the feeling it might have a buddhist relationship in some way... the at peace bit with the Book at the bottom...

      Anyway it's a theory...

      Cheers

      JC

      "NALAIKH" is small city.
