Hey Dante,
Did you sell your house and move? If you have, let's see those field gray straps you promised.

Yes, super photo! Only the second one I have seen of these badges being worn. It appears that the number on the badge is "5", so if it is indeed Jngolstadt, it would be identical to the badge I showed above. The fifth company was assigned to the Geschützgießerei und Geschoßfabrik. I have come across a previously unknown example that I will post later today.

Chris,
That's quite a "bayonet holder".

Jeff,
At that price I can't fault you for passing, especially if you already have most of the ones that would have been worn in WWI. There would only be three there that I would really want to complete my NCO wartime set. At over $400 each, including the more common Prussian one, the set is only for someone with cash to burn.

OMG! You passed on that! They must have been asking a fortune for it. There are some obsolete state knots there that one never sees, not to mention the Mecklenburg, Hessen and Reichs examples. Thanks for showing this. I've only seen some of them as drawings. Very nice indeed. Did you get a chance to confirm that they were all real (wooden ball, etc.)?

Jeff,
If all you are missing from the gray strap company set is one, you have done very well. Of my examples, only five have that.

Jeff,
I'm just saying that the private purchase ones are not as valuable as the issue ones. People ask all sorts of prices...so, I guess what I meant was that personally, I would not pay more than $50-$60 Dollars for a private purchase one (actually, I'd pay nothing, because I wouldn't buy one).

A nice issue one goes for anywhere from about $65-$135 depending on the vendor. NCOs, Kapitulanten and Jäger bring more. I saw a fairly rare issue Hessen NCO sell for about 300 Euro. Personally, I wouldn't give over $75 for an private purchase one and would rather it would be more like $50-$60. Of course, just my personal opinions.

It's fairly easy. Issue ones are all wool, do not use any cord in their construction, have shorter tassles, larger fuzzy crowns and on the whole, just look different.

It could serve as either.

I've got 27 of them. All of the issue variety. Each of yours are private purchase types.

Oh! (hand goes up) I do, I do.

Nice photo! I really like these closer portraits. You get to look into the soldiers eyes and can sometimes get a idea of what they might be feeling. I like the hardware too!

Sweet! Having the document with the story and the photo brings his deed to life again. Thanks for showing it.

It could be for any of a number of commemorative medals. The national colors make it somewhat generic.

I suppose they fake all these "Kleinteile" for reenactors. It's unfortunate, in my estimation, when they make them exactly like existing originals.

I'd take it in that condition. Sweet unit tag.

Very nice grouping. Personal items with a bit of history and a sad ending.

I'll confirm that!

You also might want to consider the set of plates for the M1907-08 uniforms from Major Arthur Schmidt, "Die grauen Felduniformen der Deutschen Armee" 1912. This was reprinted in 1983/1984 by Druckerei Nehlsen, Hamburg, ISBN 3-922565-13-1. It shows all the branches of the army in color with the uniforms and insignia of the enlisted ranks. Though similar plates are in Kraus, these expand the information. I always go to this first for a quick reference on these uniforms.

I believe the red letters indicate the Hauptlaborotorium.
