Glenn J: thanks for informations! i have found out something about him.
He was born in 1876 in family of Bedřich (Friedrich) Bernau, who was amatour historian and writer (his former name was not som german, but pure czech - Přemysl Cyril Bačkora) and author of book "Political district of Dubá" (Der politische Bezirk Dauba) published in 1888 and was for this monography awarded with medal on Provincial Jubilee exposition in Prag in 1891. His father, Josef Množislav Bačkora (02.02.1803 - 05.12.1876), was pedagogue, writer and czech patriot and his father, František (Franz) Bačkora worked as a school assistant
..and if everithing goes OK, I will have his photo in uniform (at least scan of it) in week or so.. :)

..by the bronze Signum Laudis it should be possible to date the medal (V.Merička).. the 1890-1895 issue should have 64 laurel leafs on the avers, the later issue (1895-) should have only 62 leafs but that is only by "BMVM", not for "SMVM"...

I would say it´s there really to make the reparations of centre medaillons easier.. the year "1849" and initials "FJ" are fixed to the cross with thin "legs" (see my photo of knights cross with opened back side... if it gets broken, it´s really good to have access to the inward

Noor: I see there makers mark "VM" - Vinc. Mayer´s Söhne, Wien. I think the clasp with swords for second award is surely not "pretty common"!

... officialy between LO-R and EKO.3 were only two decoration - Red Cross-star and FJO-Officer.. but RC had another ribbon and FJO-O was weared "in natura"... bravery medals for officers were placed between FJO-R and MVK.3 (military merit cross III.class)... but who knows
..and U have not mentioned bronze Signum Laudis on peacetime (red) ribbon just one place before Karls troop cross

WWI had some very interesting mechanical wonders, this is the first time ever seeing one of these Austro-Hungarian trench guns. What was the max range of one of these weapon systems do you have any examples of the rounds it fire?
Thank you for sharing your information;)
