    1. Hello,

      I have checked the Crownorders awarded up towards 1908 (E.I.C. = Congo freestate periode) and there is no Wanner mentioned. And note that the date 1908 is very important. The crownorder as shown did become a belgian order from that year on. Before it was a Order of the Congo Freestate (and not Belgian as such !!!)

      What does this mean;

      1) iff the medalbar is indeed from the named person he did get his Crownorder between 1908 and 1914.

      2) the medalbar is not from Wanner and then we have once again multiple German subjects who did get a E.I.C. Crownorder.

      Cordial greetings,

    2. Hello,

      As we are still not through all L?becks i can only add info on a few of the suspects for this time being. :rolleyes:

      * Frech Paul - awarded the L?beck Hanseatic cross on 15/09/1917 - Lt. - I.R. 126

      * Hamburger Eugen - awarded the L?beck Hanseatic cross on 15/09/1917 - Lt. der R. - I.R. 126

      The others need to be checked and confirmed when the L?H roll is complete :catjava:

      Cordial greetings + thanks for showing that lovely bar

    3. Hello TOny,

      Its possible, i am in no ways a bullet expert or anything like that. I can only base myself on the reuslt i have seen on the veterans arm and the fact that his friend was killed by the very same bullet that did hit his arm.

      Whatever it was, it had a terrifying result.

      Cordial greetings,

    4. Hello,

      The Englisch used Dum-Dum bullets in the Tunesian campaign. I know a German veteran who was hit by such a bullet in the arm. It penetrated ts arm and did actually blow his arm to pieces. After the bullet has pierced his arm and destroyed it for a large part it went on and exploded in the breast of a German soldier who was standing behind him.

      The Second soldier was killed. The German veteran was able to make it back towards Germany (altough heavely wounded) and the surgeons managed to save his arm etc ... => teh endresult is that his arm where the bullet went trhough has shortened by approximatly 1,5 centimer.

      He was lucky and survived untill this very day. iff this was a commonly used bullet during WWII in Tunesia is not known by me, fatc is that he was hit and severely wounded by one hwen defending his post against the Britisch during april 1943.

      Cordial greetings,

    5. Hello Marcin,

      Very nice medal bar and lovely to see that HOHX next towards the L?beck Hanseatic cross.

      Altough the combintation might be to thin to identify this one, a crossmatching when the L?beck roll is ready againts the HOHX roll could verify already a few candidates. Others more knowledgable should be able to say more on this combo.

      Indeed as David does say, we will publish a few statistics in order to let you guys know how it does go.

      Cordial greetings,

    6. Hello dear forumites,

      Today a friend glider pilot did phone me with teh sad news that he has been robbed of his original glider pilots badge.

      The glider pilots badge was a Buntmetal C.E.Juncker piece - Type 1.1.A and does have the makers mark on the reverse. The badge is quite cleaned (by the veteran) but it can be very easely recognized by a pit on the lowest arm of the Swastika.

      The person who did take the badge did get contact with the veteran in the last 3 weeks and did win the veterans trust and asked to photgraph the badge. He then changed the original badge towards a dummy and did leave. The veteran did just discover this and now offcoarse wants to file a complaint.

      The sad thing is that the thief did use a fakename IMHO, namely Schwarz but he was well awear of the glide rpilots histiry, otehr veterans, etc ......

      He is a German native from the area arround Stuttgart (he has a accent from that area) and arround 50 - 55 years old. I think that i even do know who he really is but proof does lack me at this point as a german from that area is currently visiting lots of veterans and does take their stuff with him to so called "photograph these historical tems' and then never does give them back.

      Some of the stolen stuff has surfaced already. So please do not buy this badge iff it is offered towards you !!!

      Here is a picture of the item, please note the cleaned state and the pit at the lowesta rm of the swastika. Please do contact me iff this very badge is offered towards you. This should be reported immediatly at the police in order to stop this thief. I do offer a reward for the person who can give me the tip that does point towards the thief.

      Cordial greetings,

      ps: a better picture will be posted real soon

    7. Hello,

      @ Komtur, absolute wonderfull medalbar :speechless1:

      @ Wild Card, thank you for showing that additional award document. Please be not shy to show duplicate pieces, etc .... as it is all of interest. For example where all the award documents signed by the very same person? etc ... => that can be shown by getting to see as much as possible such documents.

      So please feel free to show more .

      Cordial greetings and thanks for showing,

    8. Hello,

      Very nice pieces + thank you for showing them.

      @ Tom, very nic ewith that Trifold ribbon, i can only confirm the exact info as noted on the award document ;-)

      @ Westrem zu Gutacker is entered as Rittmeister when he got his L?beck cross. => i think Christophe you might be happy to know his award date of the L?beck cross, wel here it is : 28/08/1918 :speechless1:

      Cordial greetings + keep them comming guys :rolleyes:

    9. Hello,

      As some of you might have read already in the 'Rolls' file the Lübeck rolls are also being worked through these days.

      It is a work in progress (rather a large work => with estimated arround 10.000 names ) from wich as of this date arround 2.500 are listed already.

      But the roll is one part, it would be nice to see what this particular roll is all about => correct the L?beck hanseatic cross.

      So feel free to show here your:

      * Lübeck- Hanseatic cross
      * Medalbars with the Lübeck cross present
      * Cases pr paper packets
      * Award documents
      * Pictures with the cross in wear

      All participators (Bernd D., David M. and myself) would be very pleased with this additional information.

      Cordial greetings and thanks for looking,

    10. Hello Claudius,

      Thank you for that PM, just did see it + here it is (interesting for general interest)

      Olt. Z. See Alfred Edler

      -he was a pilot and earned the Saxe-Weimar Wilhelm Ernst War Cross (and that certainly would be on his uniform) Additionally, our photo guy has a black ARMY would badge and Olt.z. See is navy and would recieve the naval wound badge.

      => as he did get the Wilhelm Ernst cross/ not our guy

      Lt. (Freiherr von und zu) Hans Fraunberg

      -he also earned the Saxe-Weimar Wilhelm Ernst War Cross => as he did get the Wilhelm Ernst cross/ not our guy

      Lt. Kurt (von) Haeseler

      -he had the Saxe-Weimar Wilhelm Ernst War Cross AND the Turkish Eisener Halbmond (aka Gallipoli Star) => as he did get the Wilhelm Ernst cross + the Galipoli Star / not our guy

      Olt. Max Ihn

      -He became a pilot. Usually an observer that latter becomes a pilot will always wear their pilot badge. Iff so, also not our guy.

      So a few more to check, the list is narrowing down => still 7 suspects. :jumping:

      Thank you Claudius :cheers:
