Hello,

Here is one that is already for over 10 years in my possesion, i never much cared to look at maker marks on rings of my EK's. The clasp EK 2 is a unmarked Buntmetal piece.

The EK has however a marking on the ring, the core of the EK is very flat and i assume it is a WWII produced piece. (However im not certain of this) , the maker mark looks like what appears to be either 50 or 60. (or am i totally wrong on this one and does the mark represent a WW1 one?)

Any opinions?

Here is the cross wich started my (what it looks like => lifetime ?) addiction towards German awards.

Due to some excellent threads i tought after over 19 years being locked away (yes that is the number of collecting years) it is time that this one sees some light again

Just magnificent , and you have one wher ethe catch is still present. That is the true week point on these BSW badges. You will find the majority with the catch broken of (due to wear, etc .. etc .. ) but this just has it all !!!

In a recent BDOS magazine there was a article on these award iff i remember correctly, i was not aware that there was made a distinction between "noble" people and normal ones. Very strange but seems to have been such a time then

probably not much of a help but the third reich award is the red cross medal is the the so called "DRK-Ehrenzeichen" 3 th model. This one was awraded between 1937 and 1939.

It ranked the lowest in the DRK awards from the above mentioned period, no numbers off awarding known towards me etc ... however a very beautifull award it seems. Are there any maker marks to be found on it?

I do fully concur with what Jos said. In my beginng stag of collecting a older collector told me about German stuff "never say never", he was aiming on both : variations and the having of certain pieces in the collection.

It does not mean offcoarse that one has to believe everthing that is offered and is not stadard is good also but when you study a limited field of interest you become aware that variations that are sometimes not regulations are in existence and sometimes on a larger scale then tought.

Lets think in that on the glider pilot collecting, this is a very specialized field but i can already name one exception that was (and still is) often siad to be fake, etc ... etc ... => the large eagle variant of the glider pilots badge. period wartime pictures do proove 100 % the existence of the existence and badges have already surfaced from former wearers, etc ... but still they remain unknown and the thruth about them even more.

Anyway this subject was about cloth badges etc ... => during my research for my book (stil going on by the way) there are more raritys then expected and more rules broken then ever dreamed off. So my advice towards all collectors is : keep your eyes open and try to vieuw as much as possible period photographs in a certain area.

So my advice is : Be curious but remain aware. Place as much questions as possible but think about the subject and learn. Do also not go over a one night of ice and iff you go over to spread a theory be ready to proove it or do not spread the theory. (we already have enough of such theorys who will always remain that) Then you will find real treasures !!!

And here is the close up from the picture of a glider pilot whil in tunesia (end of 1942). The picture is of a rather bad quality. On his tunic we can recognize a cloth glider piltos badge wich is in my humble opinion also on tropical cloth. The colourdifference would be much larger when it would be a normal blue-grey coloured cloth badge.

1) the blue one is as said before perfect and my badge is also the padded version. (first badge pictured)

2) i have absolutely no problem with the tropical cloth badge very nice one. I have one picture of a glider friend while active in Tunesia (Lw. Feld. Rgt. Barenthin), one can see the tropical cloth badge in wear (altough not very well) => will see iff i can find the pictures

3) your other shown badge is a typical BSW badge, cracks in the wreath, seems like a typical eagle, etc ... (pictures are not the best but more close ups will confirm iff it is a marked or unmarked type)

yes indeed, those are well known pieces towards me and perfectly legit (very nice worn unmarked BSW badge) , where did they come from again ???

Could you also show the reverses of both badges?

I do loke what i see so far and would love to see more. The normal coloured badge looks 100 % genuine according to me. Is it a flat version? (i do mean not padded). s,
