I just received this in the mail. I liked it because the combination is a bit unusual. I can't come up with any obvious Oldenburg/Saxe-Weimar connections unless it was a Saxe-Weimar native in the Navy. I also thought that the fact that the Saxe-Weimar isn't on a swords suspension and has no sign that it ever was is also unusual. Any thoughts?

I would use a Blacklight on both sides of the bar.
Not conclusive proof of genuine, but might provide immediate evidence.
No glow. The Hohenzollern and EK ribbons are matte silk and the others are all a "watered" silk with metallic thread on the Bulgarian.

This was presented as a General's bar but, the lack of a Long Service award and the grades of the awards have me thinking it is likely someone at the Major level. The large number of foreign awards would indicate either a staff officer or, possibly, an officer who saw service in the eastern theaters. Any opinions or comments would be appreciated, as always.

I had considered the Bavarian Army Jubilee Medal for #5 but, I would expect to see some kind of Long Service award, as well. Besides, the green stripes look a little thin. That's why I was leaning toward the Turkish Liyakat.

That looks like the style of sword hilt seen on the Hessian Order of Philip. Whether this style made it onto ribbon bars, I do not know.

Wild Card - Interesting Saxony/Hannover combo. Do you know the story behind it?

If I squint hard, it appears that the 5th from the left on his medal bar is a Hindy so, the 1946 date on the back may be when the photo was taken. Definitely post-1934. The 2 odd badges could be some kind of postwar thing, like a jubilee or adjutant badge for one of the ex-royals. The one on the right could be anything from foreign to some kind of veteran's group badge.

If I'm not mistaken, both Oldenburg and Hanseatic awards are often seen in Naval groups.

This just arrived from Oz. It appears to be a variation of the Lifesaving Medal awarded by the Bavarian Free State from 1931-1934 (more of a Weimar piece than Imperial, I know) although, the design is a bit different than the photo in Nimmergut. It is well struck and appears to be silver. The ribbon is correct for that award. Any thoughts?

Although the small gold medal was awarded on the combat ribbon, there is no record of the large gold medal ever being awarded on the combat ribbon during WWI.

Far from typical with all that Colonial service!

The GH stands for Gebruder Hemmerle, a well known Bavarian jeweler. It is a 1914-18 period piece since it is on a wartime ribbon.

I appreciate all the feedback.

I just picked up this little lapel enlisted ribbon group.
EKI & EKII, Waldeck Service Medal, Austria Bravery or Military Merit Medal, Finland Medal of Liberty, Finland 1918 Liberation Medal, Hindenburg Cross and Hungary WWI Commem. Medal. Any thoughts on what unit might have had a Waldeck/Austria/Finland connection?

I am slightly confused with the first medal - is it the MiIitary Honour medal if so it would seem to predate the rest of the group which seems wrong or is the later Prussian Merit Medal?
It is the Prussian General Honor Medal, which was probably awarded after the others, I believe it could be awarded either to long serving soldiers or to civil servants.

The details on the EK look pretty good. If you can get a look at where the jump ring attaches to the frame, there should be a semi-circular "tab" extending up from the frame that the jump ring attaches to.

Great toning. It looks like it's rarely been out of the case.

It appears that he saw military service in the 1864 War with Denmark and the 1870 War with France. After that, he was likely a civil servant with a long career as the 1st 2 medals were primarily civil service type awards.

The shading can get a bit odd for the colors on these old photos. The only thing with that stripe pattern I can think of is the China Medal.
