How about this one? Something doesn't seem quite right with the medallion. What do you guys think? No bidders, I am suspicious.

I'm very interested, just no money to supply specimens with which to do so!
Absolutely fascinating subject though. Dating and origins are extremely important in my opinion. Why couldn't they simply stamp dates and makers on ALL of these? (I know, where's the "fun" in that!)

Extremely AWESOME!

I would go to Gunboards, Japanese forum.
They'll steer you in the right direction.

Na, not backsliding! Just had to alter priorities for 2nd half of 2013. Things will return to "normal" shortly.....

What do they call that, "Shill" bidding?

Yeah, still here. First time back in many moons! My collecting focus shifted 2nd half of last year but will soon be picking back up in the medals area in a few months or so!

No doubt! I think there are a lot of more recent sellers too that are on drugs when they list items with incredible starting prices or buy-it-now prices that are insane.

That's the one! It finally sold for the asking price. 350,000 much better than 850,000 or 1,200,000!!

Number one is too expensive for you guys? Don't worry, here is Number two for 850,000 Yen:
#1 AND #2 - too expensive for me! Considering a ribbon-less one was on YJA! not selling.....

That's a lot of Red Cross Membership medals! Rich, is that ALL levels of medal including orders of the Red Cross?

I've always said, "DRUGS have NO PLACE in medal collecting". Unbelievable!

Aw, dang! I've been over this thread and just can't remember anything, like that you had already posted! I've got the memory of somebody twice my age. Early onset Alzheimers......

Stuck? Such rare piece of history?!
Well, this "sexing up" looks more or less professional to me (although I don't like the looks of "sexing up" of pink ribbon).
I am inclined to think that this is an "official" variation of "green ribbon" (influenced by 1928 Showa enthronement medal?).
Do you have this one in your collection?
Yep! This is one is in my collection. Has original paper box and cello-wrapper too. The gold does look well-done, so maybe there is something to your theory and it is not just sexing it up...??
I've shown this one before, but I'll put it up again for this thread, Imperial Guard "edition":

A never-ending source of entertainment and humor.......

And of course these "framed"
Nice example
Did those finally sell, or are they still stuck on YJA?
Remeber this "mysterious"?
Hard to forget......
I recently saw the commemorative version of this with a gold mum. Here's another regular with a gold mum - do you think they were actually made this way? I think they were probably painted to sex them up to try to make more $$$$.

You guys are too much..........

By the way, why 1991?!
Heisei 10th Year = 1998
So this mark is ubsolutely out of our "alphabetical chronology"
WHOOPSS! Thanks for the fix!

Well, I was so inspired by this thread to watch "The Last Emperor" again on BluRay.
Ha! I've added it to my Netflix queue too!
Peterson was wrong about this number.
There were (at least!) four chains
Is one of those in your collection?

Damned impressive!!

Oh My God!
Some absolute highlights!
Impressive, no doubt! Check out the 1874 War medal, but notice the hook and catch style - not orignal, eh? Must be a repair, or replacment ribbon?
I'd guesstimate that only 50% of the museums holdings are on display at any given moment. We have an amazing collection of Japanese art & in equally astounding collection of Japanese weapons in our Arms & Armor section. If anyone wants to come for a visit & a tour PM me
One of these days! Can the collections like this that aren't on display be accessed/observed by visitors on special arrangement?
Do the weapons collection include any firearms?

Well, one day we'll have this great mystery figured out!

Some rejected designs for the 1904-5 Russo-Japanese War Medal
in Japan

Indeed! I like the 2nd one. Not a big fan of those other designs. But that said, the one they chose to go with was the best!
